The Nazis: A Warning from History is a 1997 BBC documentary film series that examines Adolf Hitler and the Nazis' rise to power, their zenith, their decline and fall, and the consequences of their reign. It featured archive footage and interviews with eye witnesses and was shown in six episodes. The series was written and produced by Laurence Rees. The historical adviser was Prof. Sir Ian Kershaw, who also appears briefly in the "Chaos and Consent" episode. The series was narrated by actor Samuel West. The music used over the opening credits is "Denn alles Fleisch es ist wie Gras", the second movement of Brahms' A German Requiem.

I recommend this dvd set to anyone interested in the history of WWII, or the nazi party in general. Interviews with real people who were alongside Hitler at his highest & lowest points. Very nice dvd set, highly recommended.

An eye opener

This is an incredible series, full of information and film not seen anywhere else. It does a great job of telling how the Nazis came to power and does so in a way that is easily understood. You don't have to be a history major to see how a small group of people, armed with a warped dream brought the downfall of Germany, and cost millions of lives in the process. The narration is well written, and is highlighted by interviews with people who were involved on a first-hand basis. Quality film-making doesn't get much better than this.

Something to see

This is a must for all those interested in world war 2. This film will fill in many details from the inside POV. Although very informative, it was a let down. Those who put the commercial together was the real criminal. It was a short documentary in my eyes. It was a must see for the interviews I have to admit. As for violence it was very little on the blood and guts scale. That was good. It was information and cuts from scenes we have all seen before. Some new stuff. Some new views. What I have to say is I really got the impression that some of the Germans being interviewed were sad the Nazi life is gone! It was a documentary we were unable to see in America and was worth that at least. I say check it out but this review really tells what you need to know before going in. Have fun.
