Ever since he left behind the rigid musical borders of Simon & Garfunkel's folk-rock, Simon has built upon that fertile base. And as NEGOTIATIONS AND LOVE SONGS, a Warner Brothers-era greatest hits compilation, clearly shows, Simon expanded his cultural horizons and sent his musical appetite into overdrive to separate his compositions from those of his contemporaries. From reggae lilts and Southern gospel choirs to urban Tejano twangs and South African Township jives, Simon invested his music with the spirit of a worldwide community--curious, considering his seemingly complete lack of interest in the one world/one love vibe of the '60s. But unlike other musical strip-miners, Simon doesn't culture-hop blindly. The polyrhythm and swing of hits like "Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard," "Late in the Evening" and "Love Me Like a Rock" harmoniously interweave with the delivery of the words, creating a fit that renders the songs timeless, instant entries in the pop canon. It's as though, when at his best, Simon isn't writing songs so much as weaving quilts.

    Negotiations & Love Songs

    Created: 07/07/06
Negotiations and Love Songs is a compilation of hits from the ever-changing style of Paul Simon. It is a "must have" album for any Paul Simon fan. From his earlier styles with "Something So Right", to his newer world-music sounds in "Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes" and "Graceland". With unforgetable, pulse pounding tunes like "Kodachrome", "Me and Julio", and "Late in the Evening" you'll have a hard time taking this one out of your CD player.

    Childhood Memories

    Created: 10/02/09
If you, like me, spent your childhood with "Mother and Child Reunion", "Love Me Like a Rock", and "50 Ways To Leave Your Lover" playing on the radio because your elders dug them (in my case, my mother), it may come as a shock how good these songs really are. I'm sure there are better compilations of Simon's work out there, but this one does the job of bringing back those '70's summers for me (I don't know why summer, but that's my association), and I think will for others, too. For listeners new to Simon, the infectious music and lyrics that always seem to have just a little more depth each listen are as good an introduction as I can think of.

A great collection of catchy songs

    Created: 14/08/09
This is a really good cd for fans of Paul Simon and his 70's & 80's solo material. He is an outstanding songwriter and these songs really showcase his talent. There isn't a bad song on this disk, actually if ebay would let us rate w/ 1/2 stars this would get a solid 4 1/2 from me. My favorite songs by him are on this set, and they include: "Slip Slidin' Away", "Loves Me Like A Rock" & the catchy sing along song "50 Ways To Leave Your Lover". Most of these songs are still being played on classic rock FM radio stations across America and that is a tribute to just how good they really are.

Simple & fantastic at the same time. Timeless, unforgetable. A new delight for those who have not heard his incredible blend of voice, lyrics, percussion & backup band. I will enjoy this forever, for it is truly classic music & Paul Simon is one of the most talented musicians ever!
