    A great tool, A referance like no other!

    Sharon Tyler Herbst, author of 17 books on food and drink, including “The Food Lover’s Companion,” a comprehensive encyclopedia of culinary terms and ingredients, died Friday, January 26, 2007 at her home in Bodega Bay, Calif. after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer.

    a must have for cooks

    this book is everything the critics say it is. if you cook and do not own this book then you owe yourself a treat...i hear the 4th edition is even better. all manner of food definitions, cooking terms, etc. you ever wondered about when cooking is defined here. lots of great extra helps as well.

    A Must Have in the Kitchen

    Our daughter is quite a gourmet cook. When I have a question about anything
    pertaining to food, she gets out her NFLC and has an answer for me quickly.
    Now, when friends ask me a question, I too, have an answer quickly. I am giving our son and my best friend a copy for their birthdays, they are both great cooks
    and I know they will get a world of information from this book.Can't thank my daughter enough !!!!

    A kitchen necessity!

    Every kitchen should come equipped with a copy of this book. It's my favorite gift for those who are becoming interested in food, preparation, and presentation. It's also great to have on hand as a reference when watching the Food Network - just what is a "jicama" or "samphire" and where would you find them in your supermarket? This book goes beyond definitions, with historical explanations and/or usage of items. BUY THIS BOOK!...for brides, grooms, new home owners, or old friends...

    Food Lover's Companion..MUST HAVE!

    I really need this book for my classes at culinary school. If you're a student, or just someone who has a real passion for food, you need to pick up this book! The later additions are also a great buy as well, but they have most of the same information.
