) The only reason for my not giving this lens a solid 5-star rating is the lack of f-stop settings, which was a given going in. Its use is therefor limited to the new bodies with settings done on the camera. Otherwise, it is a bright, extremely sharp lens at all apertures and distances, good for portrait and general use as well as 1:1 macro, with a bokeh far superior to what you get with your "kit" zoom lens. At its 60mm equivalent with DX format you can just leave it on and use your feet for zooming. Its light weight makes it easy to carry all day, too.

I'd been looking to get a new lens for my Nikon D80. I already had two others, a 28-80 and a 75-300. I wanted something that I could get good close-ups. The AF-S DX Micro NIKKOR 40mm f/2.8G is what I ended up with and I couldn't be happier.
The picture quality is excelent. I really like the silent focusing, no buzz or anything when it focuses. Simple to use, that's good as I'm no pro so simple works for me.
