With her deep, throaty voice and soulful delivery, singer-pianist Nina Simone was a fearless, uncompromising vocalist who placed her unique stamp on the worlds of jazz, soul, blues, gospel, and pop. Having produced most of her work throughout the 1950s, '60s, and '70s, Simone recorded less frequently in later years but remained a tireless live performer until her death in 2003. This program captures the High Priestess of Soul in three of her four appearances at the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival, with the commanding 1976 performance presented in its entirety along with two tracks from 1987 and four from 1990, for electrifying renditions of classics like "My Baby Just Cares for Me," "I Loves You, Porgy," "Four Women," and "Mississippi Goddam."
