Simple, reliable, ancient

This was one of very few models designed to bridge technologies. When GSM was new, my original GSM phone lost service in rural areas. So I got the 6340i which would also work as an analog phone. GSM works much better now, and analog isn't available. But I keep switching back to my old 6340i because it's simple to use. Fewer menu selections to set the alarm for instance. I've never used it's browser so I can't comment on it. But sms text messaging works fine. And, oh yes, it stores a lot more data than most phones do associated with the individual phone numbers. That extra data does not copy to the SIM card, but still, you can have addresses, notes, etc., that won't store in most phones. If you can live without video streaming & such, it's a great phone for texting and talking. (It also does a good job of but-dialing.)

We needed a phone for basic communication with our child. This phone rocks in that area. I've always liked Nokia phone, they are rock solid, rugged and have an intuitive interface. We searched long and hard for a phone that would with GSM networks that did not have a camera, or a browser in order to protect our child from unlimited internet access or the ability to send pictures that later they would regret. This is only 1 of 2 phones still on the used market and are affordable. It it gets lost or destroyed by kids normal activities, it is not a lot of money to replace.

Nokia 6340i w/spare battery

This model phone is the best, period! It is plain, simple and very easy to use. It is ultra durable and gets great reception. This is my 2nd Nokia 6340i phone. The 1st one, I pounded on for about 6+ yrs, until the display started to cut out on me. The battery is amazing, it still holds a great charge afer all the yrs of service. I can talk 4+ straight hrs and still have a charge left. I didn't realize how many total hrs I had on my original phone until I recieved my 2nd phone. The 2nd phone had 234 hrs when I bought it on ebay, which seemed like a lot, until I check the 1st phone. The original one had a whopping 2,003 hrs. I didn't realize I'm on the phone that much. It is a very tuff phone with an equally tuff battery.

People laugh when I pull out my antiquated Nokia 6340i but I'm not complaining. I have had this phone for eight years and it has been great. I have taken it mountain climbing in Colorado and salmon fishing in Alaska. It was built to last.
I live in a rural area and need an external antenna to pick up the AT&T tower 18 miles from my home and the 6340i is one of the few phones that have a direct connect antenna plug. I will be picking up an extra phone on eBay just in case.

Nokia 6340i the best for rural areas in Mississippi
Created: 07/09/06
I bought a new cell phone after having a Nokia 6340i for 3 years. The new phone works off of the new towers. Around the rural area of our area, there are not many new towers. I wanted my old phone type back. I got it and can get service where the new cell phones cannot. When they put up new towers, I will then change. I can't download ringtones, but I can pick up callers where my children cannot. They wouldn't want something old fashioned, but that is fine with me. They borrow mine when there's won't connect.
