Notting Hill is a modern day love story of an everyday English bookstore owner (Hugh Grant) who has a chance encounter with and subsequently falls for a mega Hollywood star (Julia Roberts). Can they make their relationship work will the differences in status and location force them apart?
Although the story has been done many times, this movie is one that you can watch multiple times and still enjoy. Along with the main cast there are some interesting supporting characters that add interest to the overall story. If you're a Roberts fan, a Grant fan, a fan of love stories or simply a movie-buff this title should be in your collection.

Wonderful on so many levels!

This movie at first glance is a romantic comedy; but it is so much more. Any fan of Julia or Hugh would love it; and it is fair to mention that the whole cast shines as well. Seeing what life is like for the famous and not so famous is interesting, and the use of other themes (a whole set including great costuming for a Henry James play for just one scene in the movie!) is a gift that was unexpected and appreciated. What I love the most is that the story still comes down to finding TRUE and honest love that lasts presented in a uniquely comedic way. Hugh offers a comedic style that I love illustrated greatly in Notting Hill with varying and different ranges as in Bridget Jones, Music and Lyrics, Nine Months (which I think stands out in this area) and even in Sense and Sensibility accompanied by a sincerity that is truly touching. Julia shines no matter what she does. I loved seeing her with a "temper". It was funny. Anyway I hope that you will love this movie as much as I do. :) Enjoy!

Tender Romance

If you like tender love stories, this one is for you. Superb acting by Julia Roberts, who portrays the most popular movie star in the world, and who has everything she wants. She meest up with Hugh Grant in Notting Hill, England, and the movie is all about how they fall in love......how they overcame obstacles to their relationships. Much humor too in this movie. I especially loved the British scenes, and Grant's British accent. The entire world is watching as they fall in love, an obstacle to a stable relationship. I would recommend this movie to anyone who wants a good love story, superbly acted!

Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts playing themselves?
Created: 05/10/06
This is a film that doesn't disappoint. From the first shot the viewer can deduce the outcome. The ups and downs, twists and turns are deliciously corny. There are clever touches but no surprises; there is wit without drama, political incorrectness without remorse. It is a good, old-fashioned, surprisingly well crafted Boy Gets Girl-Loses Girl-Realises Error of Ways-Regains Girl romantic comedy that could have been written for Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant. The crossover of reality and fantasy affects the two protagonists as much as the viewer. It is willing collaboration, willing suspension of disbelief - and a lot of fun.

Naughty Hill

While the premise of the story is a bit far-fetched, this is a love story and aren't ALL love stories of late from Hollywood, that way? And it is a comedy, and certainly has laughs in it.
Julia Roberts does this role as many of her other roles. If you like her, you will like this. If not well....
But she looks as good as she ever does, and she gets to play herself, so to speak.
The same can be said of Hugh Grant. He is a likeable character in this, and can be endearing.
I like the role of Rhys Ifans. He plays Spike, the somewhat primative flatmate of Hugh Grant. He is quite the comic relief, and caused me to seek out more of his movies (Like the goal kicker in "The Replacements").
You can characterize this movies two ways.
First, it is formulaic.
Second, it should fulfill the nitch of a comic love story in the DVD collection.
I am not one for love stories per se, but I enjoyed this one. And bought it here on eBay.
