A must-have for fans
Created: 05/10/07
As a long-time fan of the Odd Couple series, I couldn't wait to get the second season DVD set since I already had the first season. Even if you've never seen the Odd Couple on TV, I think the DVD releases of the show will make you into a fan...they are just plain great comedy. Tony Randall & Jack Klugman had a chemistry that worked so well it could never be improved, just like Abbott & Costello. The mix of supporting actors also add a lot to the show. In many ways I think the TV "Oscar & Felix" are better than the same roles played by Walther Matthau & Jack Lemmon in the original movie. I'm a big fan of Walter Matthau, and as good as he is in the original movie, I think Jack Klugman makes a better "slob" in the TV series.
The DVD picture quality is outstanding...the show never looked as good on regular TV as it does on the DVDs. The picture is super-clear, the sound is much better & the color quality is incredible, at least on my plasma display.
The DVD packaging is very good, too. You get a nice, sturdy plastic multi-disk case instead of a flimsy cardboard box. The package insert lists all the episodes with lots of details, and the DVD menus themselves are well laid-out & user-friendly. Overall, the design of the DVD case & packaging are excellent.
I highly recommend this set, & the first season as well, to anyone who loves good comedy. I can't wait for the third season & the rest to come out!

SEASON TWO ODD COUPLE
Created: 28/07/07
The Odd Couple is my favorite sit-com of all time. And the DVD release of Season 1 was pretty much perfect. Season 2 is where The Odd Couple really hit its stride, and I (and I believe most fans) greatly prefer Seasons 2-5, which were filmed before a live audience.
Unfortunately it's been reported that the packaging for Season 2 of The Odd Couple warns of music alterations. The company that's releasing this (Paramount) has received huge criticism from fans of Happy Days for the music cuts to the DVD sets of that show (also from Odd Couple producer Garry Marshall). This season includes the episode where Felix's opera group puts on Rigoletto, so fear the worst, and I know that I won't pre-order until I see some reviews after the release. I haven't seen this show in decades but I recall that Felix sang frequently in the show's "live" years, so if the pattern from Happy Days is followed, there's a good chance there will be some true damage to this brilliant show. I dread seeing what they'll do in later seasons: Will the episodes with Felix and the Sophisticados get hacked to bits? What about "Happy and Peppy and Bursting with Love"? Or the Paul Williams episode (with Felix's Beatles quote, which will also be in jeopardy)? Or "Laugh, Clown, Laugh"? The music is key to those episodes.
Five stars for The Odd Couple, but altered content definitely diminshes this set.

Odd Couple 2nd Season DVD Set
Created: 05/01/08
I love this show. It takes me back when I used to watch it at 11:00pm nightly as a teen. It hasn't been shown on TVLand in 6 years and I missed it. I recently got season 2 as an addition of my season 1 set. Jack Klugman and Tony Randall were a great team together. The supporting cast ws great too. This is the season where we meet Felix's ex Gloria and Oscar's ex Blanche. Oscar's girlfriend Nancy played by Joan Hotchkiss is here also for the laughs. This show is very funny still. The writing was fabulous. Oscar's romance with Nancy the doctor continues. And we also find out why the Unger's and Madison's split up. This show was hilarious and better than anything we watch now.

Brilliant series as you know

You're buying this because you already know how great a show it was. A cut above most of the bland 70’s US fare that was out on the airwaves. The movie is a different animal altogether, but the TV series is exceptional television. It hinges on the masterful theatrical dynamic between Klugman and Randall. After season one “The Odd Couple was recorded live in front of a studio audience” – and becomes all the more lively and funny for it. Later seasons are more consistently on the mark than this sophomore one, but its still well worth your while to watch, despite the lack of extras (Seasons 1, 4 and hopefully 5 have them).

Must see t.v. (still)

Oh I hate writing these reviews but every time I go to "my ebay" section this message keeps reminding me : "I can review one item that I won recently" so let me get this over with. If you're familiar with the show then I don't need to remind you that the pairing of Jack Klugman and Tony Randall (blah, blah, blah). I don't know what to say. It's a great show and nothing on t.v. now comes close to it in terms of its irreverent wit and biting satire. If you've never see it before then go now and rent/purchase as many copies of it as you can. Doesn't matter what season they're all good and you won't regret it.
