Evenly split between traditional folk and blues songs like "C.C. Rider" and "Poor Man" and originals by the band members, these 11 songs are solid, unpretentious folk-rock delivered with enough zest to lift it from the trad ghetto. The album ends with the band's signature song, "Wagon Wheel," which banjo player Ketcham Secor wrote around the chorus of an uncompleted song that appeared on a Bob Dylan bootleg in the mid-1970s.

Editorial Reviews
Old Crow Medicine Show make music to cure whatever ails ya.
CMJ (20040401)

[The songs] are constant reminders that what makes rock such a hoot is all that hollering.
Magnet

[S]trikes a fine balance between a rowdier acousticism and the more reflective folk traditions exemplified by [Gillian] Welch. - Rating: B+
Entertainment Weekly (20040213)

3.5 stars out of 5 - The twentysomethings in Old Crow Medicine Show marry old-time string music and punk swagger.

I've always liked the tune "Wagon Wheel" sort of a cross between old pop, bluegrass and country. There are similar bands today but they don't get air time as they don't fit most current radio stations system of playing music which is our loss. Great CD - buy it. About the only station you will ever here the rest of their tunes is KPIG so unless you stream buy the CD.

Just when I am unconsolably mookey and lamenting the lack of great new talent, along comes a beautiful, wonderful, unexpected, how did I hear about them anyway? new sound and cd.

I can guarantee the lovability factor of this band and their music and I know when I purchase it as a gift for a friend it is a sure hit. My new fourpack of constant cd rotation is OCMS, John Prine/Max Wiseman Standard Songs for Average People, Willie Nelson American Classic and KrisKristofferson, Austin Sessions. Check them out, you will not be disappointed!!!
