The Old Man and the Boy
Created: 27/08/08
The Old Man and the Boy by Robert Ruark is perhaps the quintessiantial tale of growing up and having the best mentor a boy could have to teach the fundamentals of being an outdoorman, conservationist and gentlemen in the old south. Classic, timeless and a flowing tale of the progression of a young man into adulthood while experiencing the best possible education. Short chapters have a nice beginning and end while with rich details captivating our imagination as the boy learns how to make a boat, camp out under the stars, throw a cast net or to limit out on squirrels and quail. Very inspirational regarding foods as well, the description of the foods being prepared for the holidays makes your mouth water. Truly outstanding for anyone who wishes they were more connected to the outdoors and likes to imagine how it should/could have been with the right teacher to learn the ropes of the outdoors.

a new book to replace the older one I gave my brother, and now this one is on loan to a great good friend of mine. A classic, must read. Bring back memories of my youth and the father and grandfather and all those uncles and cousins and others that helped make them.

I have always thought these 2 Ruark books where possibly his most personable. I read both years ago and was delighted to get both again as I read in paperback. All young men should read The Old Man and The Boy and then give it a few months to sink in and then read The Old Mans Boy grows Older! If you need to ask why, unfortunatly you have'nt read them. Please do yourself a favor!!
