Description
The FL-40 external flash unit for digital cameras brings exceptional power and precise creative control to Olympus' popular models. Applications for digital cameras have quickly spread beyond the business segment to personal imaging. As demand has grown, there have been increasing calls for models and accessories that offer more functions and creative possibilities. The FL-40 answers this need. It combines the power of a maximum guide number (GN) of 40 with the precision of controlling the illumination in 1/8 EV steps.Since the FL-40 has a communication function, it works with the C-2500L's TTL auto control. The intensity of the illumination can also be set automatically or manually on the flash unit. When photographers use the FL-40 with a built-in flash, they can experiment with sophisticated lighting techniques. The external unit can bounce the flash off the ceiling, for example, while the built-in unit creates a catch-light effect by illuminating the subject directly. With broad, powerful coverage the FL-40 is suited as for wide-angle images, so for telephoto shots. The settings can be changed automatically, making it easy to enjoy the full capabilities of a high-powered external flash. Illumination control, when combined with the camera's flash modes, opens up a wide range of creative possibilities. The FL-40 distributes light precisely and evenly, maintaining uniform illumination around the subject. The broad coverage ensures that images are bright and clear all the way to the edges. This flash is designed specifically for use with the C-2500 SLR Filmless Digital Camera (though it can be used with other cameras with external hot-shoe flash connections).

I purchased the product on the first week of February 2010. The product has
so many features that I was looking for that is why I bought it. It is still OK even though it is already discountined by the manufacturer. My camera is an Olympus and the product is Olympus brand made for DSLR Olympus Digital cameras.

Good overall basic flash that will work on all e series Olympus cameras in manual mode but works with the Olympus E1 very well it was built for the camera . The Olympus fl 36 will work better
with the later e series Olympus cameras E 500 and beyond. the Fl40 works well with the older Olympus E series cameras. E 1 and backwards, alternative in price and performance.

Simply awesome!

I purchased this item for use with my Olympus E-520 and a wireless kit I bought from a seller on Ebay last year.

The flash must be used in manual mode with the E-520 so a read of the online manual is a must.

It works perfectly with my after market JIANISI PT-04TM wireless trigger on my E-520. The only real drawback that I can see to this older flash is I cannot seem to find the "slave" mode (perhaps there is none).

Otherwise it is an awesome piece of kit!

Exactly what we needed!

Even though 'officially' in documentation the E-10 is said to require the FL-20 for an external flash, the FL-40 works much better and SMARTER. The FL-40 was created a year or so after the E-10 came out. So this is probably why the documentation doesn't have it listed. I did confirm with Olympus that the FL-40 works with the E-10 before buying it. So I knew I was on the right track.

The difference between FL-20 & FL-40 is like night & day. The FL-20 does not have the flexibility of bouncing the flash or redirecting it, etc. like the FL-40. The FL-40 has allowed the E-10 to be much more fun to use and have much more possibilities.

The flash is a match to my camera

i purchased the Olympus fl-40 dedicated flash approxamately two week ago. I was impressed with how the camera functions controlled the flash. I see why the owner's manual recommended highly the purchase of it. I had been using a non dedicated flash with mixed results.I so happy that i decided to go a head and purchase it.
