Katy Perry - One of the Boys

Created: 06/08/08
Sitting somewhere between Avril Lavigne and Kelly Clarkson in vocal style, Katy Perry weighs in with an altogether decent slice of rock-tinged pop on this album. Whilst she is clearly targeted at an audience much younger than old farts like me her very fine voice and tales of modern late-teen angst make for a good, if slightly well-worn, mix. Best known for "I Kissed a Girl", Perry excels at a more guitar driven sound as well as the lighter strum of "Ur So Gay", which is a truly memorable song despite the awful spelling and the slightly hypocritical sentiment (girly boys are bad but pretending to be a lesbian is OK). The very occasional foray into dance music is ill-advised as Perry's voice does not suit such a style but all in all this is a good listen which, whilst hardly re-inventing the wheel, is worth checking out.

Promising talent

"I Kissed a Girl" has become a big hit - gee, it even became Billboard Hot 100 chart's 1,000th number one of the rock era; quite promising from this former Christian-music singer. Other notable tracks on the album are "Waking Up in Vegas", "If You Can Afford Me", and the already promoted "Ur So Gay". If you would like to hear music and lyrics a la Pink but with a new edge, this is your album to try.

Good guitar driven pop

Created: 27/01/09
2/3 of this record is good. The songs that turned her into a star like "Hot and Cold and "I kissed a girl" make the disc worth the $9 price. The disc was copy secured so I could not put it on my itunes. I have to buy the songs I want on my ipod separately, that sucked. I am a CD collector so I did have the need for the cover art and all. Katy is beautimous, the art is in her antique stylings she's been seen in. There are a couple other note worthy songs with such lyrics as "You're so Gay but you don't even like boys." She's sassy and fresh. Best thing I've heard since Amy Whinehouse's last effort.

item was as advertised. Quality of the songs was acceptable. This CD set is obviously a big seller for her especially with the "I Kissed a Girl" track on it. She is a hit in the pop rock and alternative rock genre right now. Her "to the point" style and music lyrics remind me of Alanis Morisette years back in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

If you like "Hot and Cold" and "I kissed a Girl", then you'll be able to enjoy this CD. Katy Perry's music is fun. There's aren't just a couple of hits. Everything is great and just waiting to be released for air-time. If you like Katy Perry, you'll like this CD.
