Publisher's Note
A climber recalls his trip up the north face of Everest during the infamous 1996 storm that killed a group of climbers on the other side. Reprint. 25,000 first printing.

A filmmaker describes his experiences on an Everest expedition during the devastating storm of 1996 that claimed eight lives, offering a personal view of the challenges, rewards, and risks of mountaineering.

This dramatic tale of the storm that hit Mount Everest in the spring of 1996 will resonate with anyone fascinated by life on the outer edge of physical and psychological limits. Before the killer storm subsided, some climbers reached the summit, others abandoned their quest, and twelve people froze to death. Matt Dickinson, a filmmaker and a novice climber, chose that fateful May for his first ascent of Everest, up the treacherous North Face. His story is one of discovery, tragedy, and personal triumph--told, literally, from the other side of the world's tallest peak. It will be cherished by all readers eager to experience adventure, from their armchairs to their own base-camp bivouac.

Industry Reviews
"[A] rollicking, insightful and harrowing ride up Everest's North Face....Dickinson's narrative also has the advantage of one of his climbing partners, Brian Blessed, the actor and barrel-chested bon vivant who is always ready to step in and enliven a scene."
New York Times Book Review - Bruce Barcott (05/09/1999)

A sister book of Into Thin Air and The Climb

Created: 04/03/07
This book kept my full attention. Written by a reporter who was a base camp during the disastrous events of Everest 1996, Matt Dickinson remained to face the climb of the most feared and revered mountain, Everest. Thought to have mysterious powers, the mountain decides who leaves it alive. Taken through every step of the climb, Matt Dickinson had me terrified! This is what it must really be like to climb Everest. In addition to chronicling his own climb, Matt Dickinson tells of the sad fate of the other explorers who did not make it home. If you have read Into Thin Air and the Climb, you need to add this one to your repertoire. Very well written and touching.
