Over the Hedge (DVD, 2006, Widescreen Version)

Tim Johnson, Karey Kirkpatrick|Theatrical release: 2006 | Rating: PG (MPAA)

Movie synopsis

A ragtag group of forest critters awakes from hibernation to find that their forest has been turned into a suburban housing development in this animated film co-directed by Tim Johnson (ANTZ) and first-timer Karey Kirkpatrick, and based on a comic strip by Michael Fry and T Lewis. Paternal turtle Verne (Gary Shandling) and his makeshift family--spunky skunk Stella (Wanda Sykes), speedy squirrel Hammy (Steve Carrell), dramatic father opossum Ozzie (William Shatner), and his perpetually embarrassed daughter Heather (Avril Lavigne)--are ready to start the annual forage for food when they discover a giant hedge where their forest used to be. Luckily, charming raccoon RJ (Bruce Willis) shows up just in time to teach them about humans and life on the other side of the hedge, and how much food there is to be had.But what Verne and his pals don't know is that RJ's intentions are not necessarily honorable: this loner needs the food they forage to pay back a large debt to Vincent, a very large, angry bear (Nick Nolte). To make matters more difficult, on the other side of the hedge is Gladys (Allison Janney), the president of the neighborhood homeowner's association, who doesn't take kindly to wild animals. When she calls in the Verminator, Dwayne (Thomas Haden Church), it's all-out war as the animals infiltrate the world of humans. Will the loving forest family emerge victorious, or will the spoils of suburbia run them out of the small patch of land they have left? And will RJ stick by his new family, or just keep looking out for himself? Songs by musician Ben Folds reflect the film's take on the perils of suburbanization without being too preachy., IN THEATERS MAY 9, 2006 This animated children's film humorously deals with suburbia encroaching on nature, in the form of a mysterious hedge that pops up in the midst of the formerly wild wilds. Skunks, raccoons, possums, and other fauna are forced to cope in a variety of ways. Featuring the voices of Bruce Willis, Garry Shandling, Steve Carell, William Shatner, and others.

Over the hedge,Not over the top!

Created: 22/09/06
Over the Hedge is another movie in a long line of movies following suit behind pixar's sucess in animation. But where to meny of the knock off movies fail Over the Hedge pulls it off..

The basic idea here is that we have a band of forest animals living in what little forest there is left in the middle of a housing development. Add a loner Raccoon that turns there little world upside down with the discovery that humans have all the food they could ever need and it's easy picking..
The problem is that they believe they are storing food for the winter, When in fact they are stealing food for a large angry bear.

This movie has fun and a lesson all wrapped up into one.. You have Steve Carell voicing an insane but cute lil squrell who moves the film along nicely with alot of laughs. Then you have The Raccoon voiced by Bruce Willis who shows people/raccoons can change.

I enjoyed this movie alot as did the kids who I watched it with...It had alot of good interesting plot to keep you and the Kids watching hoping for the best.

The animation was only ok.. If you are a sucker for great animation then stick to pixars stuff.
If you can look past so so animation for a good fun movie then I'd say this one has got what it takes to make the whole family happy..
and who dosen't love talking animals..

This one is honestly worth watching just for The Crazy Squrell..Trust me.

Excellent Family Movie - Over the Hedge

Created: 22/08/08
Over the Hedge is a wonderful Family movie. Not only is it great for families to watch together, it is about a family of cute and very different animals. They all pull together for the whole. When RJ the Raccoon enters the scene, he is ready to exploit this family for his own needs (replacing the huge load of food he stole from a very angry bear). Verne the box turtle is the Patriarch of the family and keeps warning family members that RJ is not what he seems and that he is using them. Unfortunately, they don't want to believe Verne and embrace RJ and his methods for gathering (foraging) food. He introduces them to human food (junk food) and they are immediately hooked. In the end, RJ comes clean and helps the family get out of the mess that he brought down upon them and is welcomed to become part of the family. This is a great movie for promoting family values, blended families and diversity. The characters voices are done by a wonderful group of actors each of whom embraced their character and did a wonderful job of making these animals believable (Bruce Willis, Gary Shandling, Eugene Levy, Avril Livigne, William Shatner and more). The music for this movie is also excellent and you will find yourself singing along. This is my all time favorite animated movie.

Over The Hedge dvd

Our entire family loves this movie about a raccoon who gets caught stealing a wagon full of a bear's (voice of Nick Nolte) winter hibernation food supply and has one week to replace it or he'll be in serious trouble. With the raccoon being played by Bruce Willis and some of the funniest characters playing the innocent & very naive woodland animals, this movie has you ROTFLYAO just about every other minute!! I bought this movie because seeing it 45 times when we had it on the DVR was not enough for our family!!

Lots of fun

I wasn't sure what to expect from an animated movie featuring Bruce Willis. I found it to be lots of fun.
The movie features a group of wildlife animals trying to see what suburbia is like over the hedge. They have fun getting food in many ways off the comedic humans.
Although it is humorous for all ages, it does have a moral.
Love and family are key and without them, what do you have?
Aw...very cute, funny and perfect for all ages. It's not the best animated movie, but its family oriented and will give everyone a chuckle.
I suggest giving it a try.

Rental Quality Movie Kids Thought it was "PRETTY GOOD"

Created: 02/11/06
Missed this one at the theater so the kids were really excited when we were able to rent it.

And I am glad that I did not purchase because, although the animated graphics were amazing, compared to the cartoon movies in my childhood, the kids were not engrossed in this movies like they were in movies like Finding Nemo or the Incredibles.

The story line is of a fast talking theif Racoon who owes a large Bear his food which he had stolen and lost. He meets up with a bunch of close knit wild animals that are starving because thier habitat is being over run with a new housing development.

Cute story, Great Graphics, Funny Moments, Lags in some areas, I give it a 4 star out of 5.

Recommendation: Good One Time Rental.
