Over the Hedge (Sony PlayStation 2, 2006)

My son (and I) are CRAZY about this game! I had ordered a bunch of "Rated E for Everyone" PlayStation 2 games for him after winning a PlayStation 2 Gaming System on eBay. My son is 6, so we (of course) do not get the types of games you would get for a teenager. I needed a fun and young (but not boring) game for a young gamer. This "Over The Hedge" PlayStation 2 game is adorable! It's not too young (so it doesn't bore him), but it's not so old that he's exposed to negative things. The little characters from the movie... RJ, Vern, Hammy, etc. (you can pick which character you want to be!) run around stealing.... ummm..... "gathering" food from the neighborhood over the hedge. They go in Gladys' house, Gladys' backyard, and other places, all the time having to avoid laser beams and animal traps... there's even one part where you go in and rescue all the other characters from the exterminator's cage after he has caught them. There's a cute narrative throughout, in between all the tasks you have to do, and when you do something well, there are lots of "good jobs" and "way to go's" and such. My son has STILL not gotten tired of this game after months and months of playing it, probably because there are so many different places to go and tasks to achieve within the game... plus, you can be a different character each time. I am SO pleased with this game, which I would highly recommend for all young gamers. I think girls would even enjoy it as well.

We bought this game after watching the movie. It is very family friendly with only mild violence. My husband and I have a hard time with motion sickness from certain games but we have no problem playing this game with the kids. The objectives are clearly laid out and neither too hard nor easy. The graphics aren't jumpy and the perspectives don't switch abruptly so no distractions during missions. The bonus games are just as fun and easy to play as the game itself and I like how they are easily accessed without having to get involved in the main game.

Over the Hedge

I finally saw Over the Hedge today and feel like I've already seen it. That's because this game follows the storyline of the Over the Hedge movie 100%.

The game itself is fun, easy, and straightforward. It's definitely aimed towards younger audiences but can be fun for older players as well.

Pros:

- Real Actor Voice Overs
- Very small learning curve
- Graphics are decent
- Go-Kart Mini Game is AWESOME!!!

Cons:

- Loses replay value pretty quickly (especially for older players)
- Game might be too easy

Rent or Buy?: If you have a young gamer this game will likely make you a hero in their eyes. If your gamer is older, go with something a little more mature.

Very fun and entertaining game. This is a game the whole family can have fun with. It is nice because it has 1 and 2 player modes. It is especially fun to open up locked games in here. The bumper cars have to be one of my most favorite parts. Overall I think this game is great. The character control is great and it is simple. If you like entertaining games then you will love this one.

My favorite feature is the minigames. You can spend hours playing the golf cart demolition derby! Also, the action is amazing in the mission games, with several difficulty levels that are appropriate for kids of all ages. This is a great game!
