Scott Lucas is the vocalist/multi-instrumental mastermind of the group, and he's ably accompanied by the savage skin-pounding of compatriot Joe Daniels. Rather than resort to endless multi-tracking to fill out the sound of PACK UP THE CATS, Local H keeps it basic, relying on the kind of primal guitar riffs and drum beats that have been the heart of rock & roll since time immemorial. One of the band's most valuable assets is a wacky sense of humor, which keeps their gonzo, slash-and-burn approach sounding fresh throughout the album. The band blends broad, '70s-style sounds with a more modern lo-fi aesthetic to achieve an idiosyncratic but immediately infectious sound.

Pack up the Cats and Move to the City

    Created: 08/07/06
Pack up the cats and move to the city is obviously a parody on the Guns 'N' Roses song called, "Move to the city", or simply Scott Lucas' take on it. He ain't packin his bags, he's packin his cats! Well this song to some disappointment lays out the mood for the whole album. Maybe it reflects a sad time in Scott's life, moving? Its a good album in its own way though, not like "As good as dead" but the music is more laid back, organized and thoughtful. He doesn't simply hate everything like on his previous album though, he broods and relents over certain subjects, such as isolation, loneliness, love... All in all, its a good example of mellow rock which still gets heavy in some places.

Brilliant document of the post-Nirvana Alternative Rock landscape

     | Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

In the post-Cobain world, Rock was mostly about Nu Metal and what many like to call "Post-Grunge." While most of the aforementioned post-grunge was populated by unimpressive and generic rock acts like Nickelback and Creed, Local H was a pure shot in the arm of Rock N Roll.

It's big, angry, and has all the teenage angst Nirvana could dish out if not more. Scott Lucas was second to none in songwriting ability in the late 90s, and while the Nirvana comparison is apt, Local H sounds like they listened to a lot more Classic Rock than Alternative.

Standout tracks include Lead Pipe Cinch, Cool Magnet, The Kids Are All Right, and 500,000 Scovilles.
