Projecting nomadic images of wandering, the search for identity, and desultory romance, PAINTED DESERT SERENADE depicts a profound, worldly romanticism for the 1990s.Kadison's opening track "Jessie" sums up his appeal. She's an old flame with a habit of turning up at the most inopportune times, and with his keen eye for narrative detail, Kadison conveys his character's sense of longing and futility, as the moody melodic details leave listeners suspended in doubt, is this a long goodbye or will it all work out?"All the callers call in, but the thing that's so strange, It's all the same story, just the voices that change on," Kadison sings on "Beau's All Night Love Line," evoking the haunting imagery of Elton John and Bernie Taupin at a perfect power pop tempo, as mandolin and harmonica toll away suggestively. The sense of yearning and liberation Kadison conveys on PAINTED DESERT SERENADE belies the singer's quiet approach--there's real fire and rage in Kadison's reflective cool.

I absolutely love this CD!! I've looked for it for over a year (since my last copy was destroyed) and I simply could not find it in any of Houston's better music stores, thus eBay came to mind and I was NOT disappointed. Joshua Kadison writes most, if not all, of his own songs and I find that complimented by his softly tenor voice, makes the listener feel like you are sitting around his living room for a personal one-on-one concert. His songs are easy to relate to - like they were written about people you know yourself -in addition to being written about your own off-beat friends. If I was being sent to a deserted island and had to choose five CD's to listen to for an extended period of time, THIS CD would be one of those five!! I've turned more than a few people on to J. Kadison and his wonderful style. I am now in the process of purchasing the rest of his music publications to complete the set. I had no idea that he had as much - I only was aware of the original CD - which I bought as a tape. I am on a mission to get it all, and thanks for asking.

I love this cd, I bought it years ago when it came out. It played so much and took everywhere that it was time to get another. His music is so relaxing and the song "Momma's Arms" is such a lovable song. Every song has so much love and passion in it. A great album for all music lovers!!!

Painted Desert Serenade - Kadison, Joshua (CD 1993)

You either love this CD, or you don't. There is no in between. "Jessie" speaks to anyone in a relationship that seems to repeat itself. I'm just like everyone else, I scratched my second CD and had to hunt down this, my third copy. I like to hear it at night when I go to bed. It's great for sleep or anything else that comes to mind. I give it 5 stars!!!
