Palm TX

Created: 14/02/10
My husband and I both bought slightly used TX's. We bought them because we love the Palm Desktop program which we have used with other Palm OS products for many years. Keeping a calendar/appointments, addresses/contacts, memos, to do lists, photos & video, music are super easy to learn and use. I find Outlook too complicated. There are many apps for Palm OS that work very well on the TX. We have 4 versions of the Bible with search capabilities and the TX has no problem - works quickly. One thing - if you have Windows Vista 64 bit, be prepared for extra hours learning how to sync via bluetooth. Vista 64 bit only syncs using bluetooth. That's why I bought it. My old Clie would not sync via usb. My husband has Vista 34 bit and has no problems syncing via usb. I spent many hours using online support with Palm working out the bugs. Also had to learn a few tricks from Pocket Tunes who finally helped me get the TX to sync music via the usb w/ Media Player (it won't sync via bluetooth).

I would encourage anyone who wants a pda but isn't ready spend the time or money on a smart phone to get a TX. The screen is huge with great clarity. You can run slideshows of your photos, organize them into albums and/or store them on an sd card. The TX has an external speaker which works well as long as it's not too far away from you. The sound is great using headphones! I like the wireless features: bluetooth and web. It has Documents To Go so I can take work documents with me when I need to. I like being able to write with the stylus and changing over to the qwerty is easy when need be.

I see no negatives to the TX.

My review of the Palm TX

Created: 18/05/10
Nice large screen so I can see appointments and tasks much easier than on my Z22. It also displays more information, pertaining to calendar and tasks, on the home screen. It does have wifi and I have gotten online when I was near a router. The writing pad is more responsive than the Z22, however, and I find myself adding spaces and periods where I didn't want them. This isn't really a problem with the Palm TX, just that my writing style was set from the Z22. You might not even notice. Syncs with my Outlook with no problems and I like the one button sync tool on the charger which you press instead of going a lot of other motions.

I wish the writing pad at the bottom of the screen was a little smaller so more information could be posted on the home screen. I had problems installing the software that came with the product, but I just went to the Palm website and downloaded the latest version of Desktop Manager instead. I had hoped to be able to use my Blackberry cell phone to get the Palm online when away from a router, but that has proved to be unsuccessful. I also do not care for the charger setup. Instead of a regular USB connection, like on the Z22, it has a prong type setup instead which, for me, is not as easy to use.

Overall the Palm TX is a nice unit and stores a lot of information. Except for having the wifi feature, and larger print which is nice for old eyes, it isn't all that much different than the Z22 and I could have saved myself some money. If this is going to be your first handheld, however, you will probably like it.

Palm T|X PDA MicroTablet

Created: 06/02/11
If there is one palm product that can be in your pocket make it a Palm T|X. It does it all and has a ton of applications. Make sure to get the sdht driver (PowerSDHC v.1.2.0.0) and it will be able to use the big 32gig cards! Awesome!

I am using it for music with pTunes and Softick audio driver to do so with bluetooth headphones. It is a bit quirky but so is bluetooth. So wireless music and currently an 8gig sdhc card.

Add in Documents to go and it has native msword, msexel, mspowerpoint abilities. The darn thing will also allow pdf files in native mode and a bunch of others!!! Kickbutt software!!!

By linking to my bluetooth phone I can acess the web and various online tasks like email... still working on setting it all up but WoW!

This palm will also do movies and videos! I have seen one on this machine and they look very good. very legible and easy to see! very awesome!

Lots of other tasks available and this thing does WiFi too... lots to explore! this is the best of the lot. better than any other palm products untill they release the ipad killers this year... ceeann1 02-06-2011

Palm TX Purchase

Created: 10/10/10
I love this thing! I have used Palm PDAs for 10 years so I knew I would. Just a little careful bidding and I got a great price. These devices are a little dated but they work wonderfully. With hundreds and hundreds of free applications on the web you can find almost anything you need. Just be aware, Windows 7 will not support using the USB ports to sync to Palm devices. Bluetooth works just fine though. You can even find drivers on the web which allow the use of SD cards of 4 GB and larger. With these cards you can place video and audio files directly on the card with a PC card reader/writer and not sync them at all.
If you want a great PDA and a great selection of software both free and for purchase, this is a great choice.

Palm TX

Created: 01/09/10
Looks like several of these Palm TX units are coming off some kind of lease service. The one I received was used (with visible scratches, including some on the screen) but has functioned well.

While I did not receive the one pictured, I did get a charging base with the unit, which was unexpected.

The Palm TX incorporates wireless 802.11B connectivity as well as BlueTooth in the same package size as the Palm E2. This permits internet connection at hots-pots. No G3 service fees! Full Mobile Email and Web support when you're in the right places (Been to a wireless equipped McDonalds lately?)

One thing I don't like is the need to buy a third party ($20) software package in order to play sound through a wireless Bluetooth headset. Since this unit boasts a music player, it's a remarkable design lapse.

Now dated, the unit is fully functional for any number of tasks - and many are becoming available below the $85 price level.
