Panasonic DVD-LS850 Portable DVD Player (8.5")

So badly I want to give it excellent but I just cannot. The picture, only beat by Sony. The Craftsmanship also only beat by Sony. The price beat by none, along with the laundry list of features. Although the one and only reason I cannot give an excellent is due to the sound. Now, don't get me wrong, I do not expect my home theatre sound system in the back seat but I would think that at 1/2 volume the speakers would not drown out in bass. All around though it is a great purchase. I would buy it again, especially at the price offered. I bought it for the long car rides that we go on for my son to watch TV. Because God forbid, he entertain himself. Anyway back to the player. It is sharp looking and fits on the headrest perfect. Battery at 1/2 volume and highest brightness lasts about 2 hours. This is not bad especially considering how light the model is. Yes Sony beats picture quality, but doesn't begin to touch th price. Our car is very quiet on the road so volume does not have to be very loud but the noise it makes, makes it hard for me to concentrate on the news on the radio, but again just a tradeoff to make my son happy, I guess. It does not play blu-ray so that limits it some, and does not have an ipod jack. It does have an input and outputs to the car radio so you can hear Barney as loud as you would like if you wish to plug it in! LOL... The design is very modern and is pleasing to the touch. Its lid goes upward and downward and then will fold on itself like a tablet pc, but does not swivel. Not really a problem I think due to the large viewing angle of the screen. No matter what headrest it is on it displays well all across the backseat. It did not come with headphones, but they are cheap anyway. Also the carrying case it came with is extremely nice. More padding in that case than in my couch in college. But not bulky, smaller than my wifes purse. This unit is very light weight. Vibrates some, but really not noticeable once it is hung on a headrest. The carrying case also doubles as housing for those precious child pleasing DVD's. Also what I like is that when you turn off the unit and go shopping and come back and turn it back on, it goes back to playing where it left off. Not all units do this but I think it is kinda important especially if you have a hundred errands to run. Does not have remote, kinda a bummer, but again it really doesn't matter all I have to do is reach my hand over. Its not like I am going to watch an 8.5 inch screen 10 feet away. So overall, I would buy this item again and would refer it to a friend. It is a well built unit that I hope will last a long time, and my son will enjoy many hours of entertainment. Listed as a factory refurbished item but I couldn't tell...it looks and plays like its totally brand new! Complimentary and stylish design, it looks as good as it plays, too! Attractive, slim compact design and black housing really helps highlight the screen and makes watching easier. Other models that have a metal housing, esp. around the screen, I find really distracting to watch. This unit "invites" you in to watch the movie. Easy to use, large well placed buttons makes it extremely user friendly right out of the box. Very good picture quality, not the best I've seen but I certainly can't complain...it's well above average and the anti-glare screen is great. Controls are simple and easy to use, manuel is easy to follow to make any adjustment you want. The sound quality is excellant, adjustments only make it even better, plenty of volume so you aren't limited to only using headphones when friends watch too. The screen is a nice size, not too big to be a burden to carry but big enough for several people to watch together. It is an invaluable asset at my workplace where we have long overnight shifts with periods of inactivity. Fabulous unit to pass the time with! Only downside is unit doesn't come with a remote but that's a minor detraction to the overall great review of this unit. It's a nice luxury to have a remote but certainly not a necessity. I can't comment on the battery life as I really only use the unit plugged in. Refer to other users comments that use their unit camping and such. Unit comes as a package deal with a nice carry case, car mounting kit, AC power adapter, car power adapter and audio/video input/output cord. I have always trusted the Panasonic brand and they have never let me down. This unit is worth every penny and I would not hesitate to purchase this one again. I looked at many other brands and models in Best Buy, Circuit City etc. but my opinion is this one beats them all in every category. You won't be disappointed with this one!

Oh, I'm so please with the three Panasonic DVD-LS850 Portable Players 8.5 inch. I really like the features and the visual and sound are great. I would recommend anyone to purchase this product and see for themselves. I have tried other well known brands and I find that the Panasonic delivers what they say it well.

I was very happy when I opened up my Panasonic DVD-LS850 Portable DVD Player and it played all my DivX discs to perfection. The swivel on the screen is great for the car and the car mounted kit it came with is great. I have been looking for a portable player to play my DivX because it's the only kind of format I use. I would highly recommend this portable player. Player comes with wall plug-in and car plug-in. The bag it comes with is great. I would consider the video quality to be 10 out of 10 and the audio to 8 out of 10. Even though the audio isn't perfect the player provides on board plug ins for computer speakers. Audio sounds perfect in the car.

I read and re-read reviews about every dvd player ever made. The panasonic was rated very well behind Sony. When this was offered as a remanufactured item at a really good price I went for it! For less $ than many other 7" screens this is an 8.5" and while that doesn't sound like much, when screens get this small, a 1.5" difference is almost 25%. About remanufactured items: I worked for General Electric years ago and refurbihed items were offered to employees only. The advantage is when an item is returned that has been mass produced, when it comes back to the manufaturer it is gone through by hand and EVERYTHING is checked, not just the original flaw. So it is warranted for 90 days at the reduced price. I purchased a 2 year warranty for $15.00...Are you kidding??!! The picture and sound on this player are fine, it has more features than I need, and while I bought it for the kids, I use it at night with headphones because it is silent and doesn't light up the room like a TV. I'm totally satisfied with this purchase.
