    Album Notes
Personnel: James Young , Tommy Shaw (vocals, guitar); Dennis DeYoung (vocals, keyboards); Chuck Panozzo (vocals, bass guitar); John Panozzo (vocals, drums, percussion); Steve Eisen (saxophone); Mark Ohlson, Mike Halpin, John Haynor, Billy Simpson, Dan Barber (horns).Recording information: Pumpkin Studios, Oak Lawn, IL; Universal Recording.Arranger: Styx.PARADISE THEATER was arguably the last great Styx album, as the rift between Dennis DeYoung's balladry and the more hard-hitting approach of James Young and Tommy Shaw hadn't yet wreaked havoc on the group's output. There's a vague concept about the tearing down of an old theater, but as with most concept albums, the songs are the important thing."Rockin' The Paradise" is one of the group's most effective rockers and most substantial group efforts (its one of the few songs written by all three of the band's composers). Tommy Shaw brings his pop sensibilities to the fore on the ridiculously catchy (and hugely successful) "Too Much Time on My Hands," whose synth bass hook became part of the pop pantheon. DeYoung proves his mettle as a balladeer once again on the hit "The Best of Times," and the Young/Shaw-sung "Snowblind" finds the boys getting downright bluesy.

A concept album that truly delivers the hits...

    Created: 06/04/09
In the era of the late 70's, hard rock bands with thoughtful lyrics, synthesizers and other unusual accompanying instruments, and concept albums emerged amonst the plethora of straight-ahead groups in the rock world. None of these artsy acts was more talented (or more successful) than STYX. Started in Chicago by flamboyant lead singer Dennis DeYoung (who would one day sing on Broadway) and the percussion Panozzo brothers, adding in lead guitarist James Young soon after, the band flirted with success with their single, "Lady" - but it wasn't until singer/songwriter/guitarist Tommy Shaw came on board that the band burnt up the charts with 4 multi-platinum albums in a row (bet you didn't know that!)

Paradise Theater, sandwiched between the more famous concept albums The Grand Illusion and Kilroy Was Here, was just as good and had 2 Top-10 singles to boot! And that is not counting "Snowblind" and "Rockin' the Paradise" which were mainstays of their live shows for years.

This album showcases the one-and-only three part harmony of DeYoung-JY-Shaw, Chicago-esque horns and percussion, very decent guitar work, and top-notch production, along with the consistent song selection that any good concept album would feature. A treat for any fan of rock-n-roll!

Classic STYX, just try to find it outside of eBay!

    Created: 09/11/09
This is the last of STYX's great records.A very fun concept-style album.Like someone else said it seems to be hard to find in music stores anymore. This is also the only album which you cannot find on iTunes or Amazon Music stores.Must be a copyright issue. You can't go wrong getting this CD for less than $6 shipped.

    AWESOME Styx Album!!!!

    Created: 02/06/07
I love the songs on this album. I had never heard it before and a friend wanted the album. Said he had looked every where for it. Well I knew except Ebay or he would have it. So as a suprise I got it for him and to my great suprise I discovered I love it. It is one of the best Styx albums out there. My friend is right about that and now i know too. The songs I feel are so much better than on other albums, not that those are not good. There is Nothing I dislike aboutit. A real listening pleasure!!!!
