A great view for people with an open mind. Gay Drama.

The movie is based of the true story of one Michael Alig played by Macaulay Culkin, the boy from "Home Alone". Seth Green plays his sidekick and "best friend and mentor", "James St. James" and Marilyn Manson makes a few cameo appearances, not as himself but it might as well be. The very sexy Dylan McDermott, from the short lived and loved M-Tv's "My So Called Life', plays "Angel" a drug dealer and a victim at the hands of Alig and his gang as does all of Ali's "friend's in one way or another. It is a decent look at life during a time in New York club scene in the late 80's and early 90's where whacked out fashion, drug's, Madonna and techno music was the rage. The acting is good that is why I rated it average however if you would like a more real look into the life of Alig find the DVD documentary of his life. The movie is a good cult classic if nothing else and a good view for a trip down memory lane.

Party Monster is monstruous indeed!

If you were a club kid in the 90's or a raver this film is a must in your collection. Besides the fact that it's based on a true story (read the book Party Monster by James St. James), it's a harrowing take on the crazy world of drugs and parties in the scene back then. Marilyn Manson is hilarious in it by the way, Seth Green also gives an amazing performance, and of course, Macauley Culkin as Michael Alig and Chole Sevigny as Gitsie make for one devious bunch of freaky kids. Worth it! Which is why I just bought it...*_* A+

Party Monster

Party Monster is a movie based on Michael Alig, and the Club Kids, and the murder of Angel Melendez in the late 1980's and early 90s in New York city. Staring Seth Green as James St. James and Macauly Cukin as Michael Alig. This movie is defiantly not for everyone, especially children, due to it's very strong drug use, graphic violence and partying(there's also homosexually, which may rub some people the wrong way). If you can handle the drama of it and like huge lavish costumes then Party Monster is for you.

Indepth look at "Club Kids"
Created: 28/12/06
An interesting movie that looks at the club scene and what really went on with these "club kids". You get an in depth look at the Club Kids and how they lived their lives (or ended them).
If drugs, murder, or anything of that subject matter then you should probably avoid this movie. If this sorta thing intrigues you, then this movie will be more than enough to satisfy.
Storyline: was very interesting at looking how these kids lived, and what they did exactly. It's based on a true story, which usually makes for a good movie.
Acting: Seth Green gives a interesting performance to say the least, but its something you would expect from him. He did an excellent job at portraying James Saint James. Macaulay Culkin gives a good performance, something that you would expect from the "Home Alone" Kid. Nothing that would win him any awards but it was decent enough for this movie. Marilyn Manson makes an appear as a Drag Queen (are you surprised?) and does a good job at portraying a Drag Queen, who knows if it was acting or just being himself. Either way it was pretty good.
Overall the movie was pretty good based on a true story. The acting wasn't all that bad, and it had some recognizable faces.
If you are into movies based on true stories and look at things that are consider out of the norm or underground, then I recommend this movie. If you aren't into something like this, then you might wanna steer clear of this one.
Overall I would give this movie a 8/10 (or in eBays case 4/5).

Marilyn Manson made me buy it!
Created: 02/04/08
There exists a movie database on the internet that is my guideline of choice. Everyday people provide reviews and ratings, not jaded professionals. As usual, I agree with its rating of 5.9 out of 10 on "Party Monster".
As the title of this review jokingly implies, it was the presence of Brian Warner (aka Marilyn Manson) that decided my purchase. Normally I won't buy (and absolutely won't take out a loan for the theatre) unless the website shows it at least close to a 7 out of 10 rating.
I don't regret it except that it was a misconception. Marilyn Manson is in it, for about five minutes at most.
Mr. Manson's spot on the cast list I saw online is utterly misleading. And he had a cooler, silent 10 seconds (or less) in the eerie and superior "Lost Highway" film by David Lynche. A surreal motion picture, its fans still debate the meaning of the plot.
In "Lost Highway", Mr. Manson and his friend / bandmate Twiggy Ramirez (Jeordie White) are shown in a snuff film alongside Patricia Arquette. Guess who gets to writhe and thrash in naked death throes? Suitably creepy for the artist, the scene is grainy black and white.
I love the work of Seth Green, so "Party Monster" was worth watching for him alone. However, I think I will sooner check out the documentary by the same name before watching this again.
No Seth Green in that version from 1998, of course, but it rates 7.1 and has me curious to see the real people interviewed. The book "Disco Bloodbath" is also on my to-read list now.
My favorite part of this flick was the great costumes. The tragedy is real and compelling, certainly, yet this depiction couldn't decide if it was drama or comedy. Normally I appreciate that; this one just didn't blend the two genres well.
It does have decent special features. I had to immediately watch again the ever witty Mr. Manson talking about his first cigarette while in "Christina" drag queen dress. It was just too bad that the Christina character didn't get more screen time.
If you are a big Seth Green fan, then do buy this. He really is fabulous.
