Movie trailer and editorial reviews

"...Wonderful, a deeply felt elegy to the passing of the Old West surely made in response to the confusion and bitterness of the Vietnam era....The film is rich in visual textures..."
Los Angeles Times - Kevin Thomas (11/25/1999)

"Peckinpah's most poetic work, providing a languid rhythm for Billy's insouciant fatalism."
Entertainment Weekly - Ken Tucker (01/20/2006)

4 stars out of 5 -- "[I]mportant....It's certainly a brutal piece, and not the most comfortable of movies."
Ultimate DVD - Jan Vincent-Rudzki (07/01/2006)

A Real Western Moment

Created: 20/06/07
Peckinpah. Kristofferson. Coburn. Dylan songs. The legendary and complicated relationship of Billy the Kid and Pat Garrett. The truth of this story is lost in the gunsmoke of the past, but Peckinpah's interpretation brings it alive with a realistic portrayal of the West's coming-of-age, while retaining enough of its romantic essence to endure as cinematic art. Kristofferson does a credible job as Billy, a clever counterpart to Coburn's Garrett. Add the Dylan songs and you have a real Western moment.

Unique western

Created: 05/07/09
This movie is hard to describe because it is kind of a genre in itself. Peckinpah had it together when he made this movie and the unexpected becomes the core of the movie. Not for everybody but hard core western fans should like it. Bob Dylan's soundtrack is perfect for the film.

One of the Best!

It is a classic film. It features the music of Bob Dylan and Kristopherson. The actual film quality is incredible for 73. It is no where near a spaghetti western. The indepth plot and the well developed characters make you feel as though you are right there with them. Pekinpaw was a master. Everyone should own this film.

Truly enjoyed this flic. Kristofferson & Dylan are brilliant, as is Coburn. One of our favorite Westerns ever - we are not usually Western fans. Good casting & believable dialogue. Hard to believe the movie is from 1988. It's an adult film but there isn't an orveruse of bad language. Bought is coz we saw it years ago & wanted a DVD of it. Great to see again.
