The Patriot (DVD, 2006, Extended Cut)

This movie is outstanding! You don't have to be a history buff or a Mel Gibson / Heath Ledger fan to enjoy this movie. The actors are phenomenal. The costuming is beautiful. The settings are realistic. The story line is heart wrenching. I cannot say enough good things about this movie.

By far, I believe, Mel Gibson's best movie ever, as an actor, bar none! I would also venture to say my personal favorite movie of all time. This extended cut really adds so much more intensity to the film. The missing scenes were probably reluctantly deleted, I imagine. When you see this you will know exactly what I am stating here. This movie lacks historical accuracy in its plot and character development (especially with regard to the thinly disguised characters of Francis Marion and Banastre Tarleton--hint: the former owned slaves and the latter did not burn churches). It perpetuates racial stereotypes, Hollywood cliches, and glorifies in ultra-violence and jingoistic themes.

In short, the only reason to buy it is if you (like me) are a fan of Jason Isaacs and think that he looks absolutely divine in his British Green Dragoon uniform (hint the second: the uniform should have been green, and the unit in question was the British Legion).

If you can find this movie, buy it! It' should be a classic in about 20 years!
The Patriot is a portrayal of the colonists in pre revolutionarey times and the main character played by Mel Gibson is outstanding. Heath Ledger did an awesome job as supporting actor.

This was a well made, intense movie. It evokes strong feelings throughout the entire show. I would love to see this in an edited version however, as I do have difficulty with graphic scenes. This was not as graphic ( I don't believe) as Braveheart. This is a movie I will watch again! (not for children)
