Love Jane Austen
Created: 08/09/07
Had a very good seller. Received dvd in timely fashion. I love most of Jane Austen's work. Persuasion reminds me of a few families that put on airs to others when they're lives are dysfunctional!
Good casting though. Always rooting for Ann Elliott to marry Capt Wentworth and I liked his family also..very down to earth. Really liked his friends in Lyme, Harpolds. Beautiful scenery. Always loved history, ocean, Navy..So to me...it made sense to buy it also because wanted to add on to my Jane Austen Collection.

Jane Austen at its non-Hollywood best
Created: 09/07/06
This is one of my favorite Jane Austen productions and a must for anyone who loved Emma and Sense and Sensibility. The title characters are expertly played and become more appealing as the story progresses, almost as if you can see them bloom as their past love grows again. Expert acting, beautiful locations, sympathetic and believable characters, a dedication to authenticity in wardrobe and styling, and storytelling with a delicate hand make this one of the best Austin adaptations in recent history.

Beautiful Jane Austin story about waiting for love.

I love this movie as I love all of Jane Austin's classics. I like that fact that they don't use drop dead gorgeous actors, just normal looking people. I love Anne's quiet, strong, mature character, much different from the silly, young character in Emma. I bought this because I was enhancing my DVD collection. This is a movie I will watch over and over again.

casting error

Amanda Root lacked appeal. Even after her youthful bloom was supposed to have come back...her lips were thin, and there was nothing very appealing about her face or demeaner that would help make you believe that two men found her so attractive. She looked afraid, worried and boring. Different casting for the character of Anne Elliot would have made it emensely more enjoyable and believable. However, the character of Capt. Wentworth, (Ciaran Hinds), good actor, perfectly agreeable looking man, striking even, just what the hero ought to be.

I got this DVD to replace an old VHS version that had finally given up the ghost after much use. What's not to like! This is a great story, has terrific characters, and is very engaging, plus it feeds my "romantic at heart" nature. I find the characters in this movie to be a little more "real" than those in other Jane Austen stories, but then again, I like them all. This movie comes with a very high recommendation from me -- you won't be sorry for investing your time and money in it.
