    Publisher's Note

In Play Poker Like the Pros, poker master Phil Hellmuth, Jr., demonstrates exactly how to play and win -- even if you have never picked up a deck of cards -- the modern games of poker, including: Texas Hold'em, Omaha, Seven-Card Stud, and Razz.

Phil Hellmuth, Jr., a seven-time World Champion of Poker, presents his tournament-tested strategies to beat any type of player, including:

    • The Jackal (crazy and unpredictable)
    • The Elephant (plays too many hands)
    • The Mouse (plays very conservatively)
    • The Lion (skilled and tough to beat)

Play Poker Like the Pros begins by laying out the rules and set-up of each game and then moves on to easy-to-follow basic and advanced strategies. Hellmuth teaches exactly which hands to play, when to bluff, when to raise, and when to fold. In addition Hellmuth provides techniques for reading other players and staying cool under pressure. There are also special chapters on how to beat online poker games and an inside look at tournament play.

A nine-time World Series of Poker champion shares profitable tips from Play Poker Like the Pros, in a guide that features a new introduction and an additional chapter on how to win no-limit Texas Hold'Em tournaments. Original. 35,000 first printing.

I Would not recommend unless you are beginner and the book is cheap. Many other better books. Helmuth's book is not well written, very basic, a bit self grandizing. Schlansky, Gordon, and Doyles super sys II are much much better to learn to play the game. I have purchased a dozen books and I am a good intermediate player, time, study, and table experience may turn me into a decent advanced player. Good Luck.

If you want to succeed, it only makes sense to learn from the people that are winning and getting CONSISTENT results.

This books gives a few stories but most importantly explains how to play against a variety of players.

This is one of those books that you can keep for a long time and you will keep learning EVERY TIME you open the book.

    Enjoy!

    Great player, Sub-Par Book.

    Created: 25/07/07
This would not be a top pick for a beginner, intermediate, or advanced Hold em player. Phil, although a phenomenal player, offers little in this book. The super-tight philosophy he teaches is somewhat impractical, and offers little about strategy, suited connectors and large or short-stack play. Pick up something from Brunson, Harrington or Sklansky and teach yourself a more comprehensive style of play.

    Just my 2 cents.

The book is good, it is just very small and the print it little. I think the text about the book is informative. It covers beyond just the basics. I found it interesting that it was through the eyes of Phill Hellmuth because he is such an experienced poker player.
