Ping Eye 2 + no + irons
Created: 20/06/09
One of the best if not the all-time best irons I've ever played. Have played these irons on and off for the last twenty years, and end up going back to them to find out if my game is improving because of my swing, or are these irons still equal to, or superior to everything else I've been playing. And I've played everything, i.e., Callaway, Cleveland, Titleist, Wilson, Yonex, etc... you get the idea. Bottom line, I'd have to say their superior! They have the original square grooves that are still legal, which really grab the greens. Thank you Karsten for sticking to your guns when battling the USGA, and winning.
The Ping eye 2+ no + irons are in my opinion the most attractive, they optically setup really well, and have a great solid feel when striking the ball. I have just as much confidence hitting the 3 iron as I do the 7 iron, and the scalloped wedges are incredible. When playing a softer ball, i.e. Pro-V1, in conjunction with the square grooves of these irons, typically equates to sticking the ball next to the pin. I've seen several versions of the Ping irons come and go i.e., Zings, ISI, eye 3's etc... and none of them were or are equal to the old eye 2's.
The only down side to these irons is they're becoming very scarce. I don't mean the Ping eye 2 + versions, but the eye 2 + no + version. I think they only made them for about six months, and completing an entire set is a real challenge, especially when trying to obtain the wedges. Anyway, if you get a hold of a set, hang on tight, because these are highly desired irons, and people will always try relieving you of the burden of having them in your bag.
If you need or are looking for more information, then I'd contact Ping directly, or Pongman.com, I think he's still around. You can also Google them. I hope this review was helpful. Good luck.

Easy club to hit
Created: 02/03/09
I bought these clubs for my son who is 16 years old and plays to th 25 handicap. His ball striking improved immediately. The club isn't as aesthetically pleasing to the eye as my forged blades are, but they are so easy to hit. Do you want to look good, or play good.
Ever since this club came out, companies have tried to copy it. It was the first cavity back cast club. The cavity back allowed Ping to use perimeter weighting. This allows the club face to resist twisting on mishit shots. Less twisting means more forgiveness, straighter shots, higher ball flight, more distance. The subtle cosmetics the other golf companies use today do not help the golfer as much as they say. The alloys used, and the casting processes have improved consistency in the clubhead, so you don't have clubheads with "hot spots", a common problem in the Tommy Armour 845's released in the early 90's.
It a 20 year design that is a classic. Easy enough for a 30 handicap to play, but designed well enough for a single digit handicapper to have them in his bag. Don't pass on a set that was taken care of. They're an oldie but a goodie.
If you want technology to help your golf game, invest your money into a driver, a hydrid, and a lob wedge. Better yet, get fitted at a shop that can put you on a launch monitor. When you spend that much cash, its a good idea to know that your purchase will actually help you play better.

Ping Eye 2 Irons - God's gift to the average Golfer
Created: 26/04/06
Ping Eye 2 Irons will allow the club to do the work.
A good swing will result in the ball being picked up effortlessly by the club and launched into the proper flight for the club hit. Trajectory of these irons is higher than most. Shots hit off centre (miss-hits) still result in a good shot due to the excellent perimeter weighting.
The club weight itself is just enough to project great club head speed thru the hitting area. Many of the newer models have better; compositions (ie; Br) , better grooves (square grooves are the best for ball control, esp. on your wedges) , and better shafts ( composites help the older and young folks a lot, more whip ).
Of course no club is good without you having the proper grip, set-up, swing, so follow-thru ... take a lesson from a Pro!
Remember when looking at ebay clubs, most used clubs require NEW grips, that is probably the real reason why the person is selling them, they don't feel good anymore ... and new grips will make the old clubs new again, especially when they are very high quality clubs like Ping Eye's.

PING EYE 2 + PLUS IRON SET 2-PW BLACK DOT ZZ LITE, NICE
Created: 01/02/10
I purchased this set of clubs after doing research on the playability and value of Ping Eye 2 clubs. In the past I owned a set of regular Ping Eye 2's and they were great clubs to play and when I decided to try something else they were easy to sell and actually sold at a higher price than when purchased. I decided to try the Eye 2 + after trying other more modern iron sets. They are still great clubs that are very durable and hold their value well.
One thing that is important when purchasing these clubs is to pay attention to the shaft you are getting. It makes a world of difference. If the shaft makes the club swing weight too light or heavy for your swing they will not perform as they should for you. Get the shaft right and, in my opinion, they can't be beat with a modern club.
For me the PW through 5 iron were the most productive in the set. I use other clubs for wedges and long irons. I'm getting older and this may not be the case for younger golfers who can make the 2-4 irons perform with their swing.
The clubs are very forgiving and have a very solid feel when hit well. I couldn't tell much difference between the Eye 2 + and the regular Eye 2 I once owned, but that's been awhile. They are both great clubs. The wedges are great too, but I'v gotten used to the Vokey 60/56,52 combo and they work for me, so why change.
There are other clubs out there that will give you more distance, but for all around control, forgiveness, and playability plus value, these clubs are right up there with the best of the lot.

Ping Eye 2 still used on tour and still one of the best irons ever made.
Created: 04/05/11
Ping is the answer to almost any golf question. The irons have been used by professionals for years and still show up on tour today. Everyone knows about the controversy around the Ping Eye 2 wedges because of the superior stopping ability. These irons outshine most all other brands in playability and performance. Why spend 1000.00 dollars on irons that play the same or worse than these irons? I do not like their drivers, but the putters and the irons are the cream of the crop. The ultimate iron is the Ping Eye 2 +NO+ because it is a game improvement iron which scalloped out the back of the iron and the sole and distributed that weight in the toe and back to add extra High kick to the iron and reduce sole drag. The +NO+ is the ultimate iron in golf but because of the rare nature of the set costs too much for the average golfer. The Ping Eye 2 is almost as good but does not offer the sleeker look and the game improvement of the Plus No Plus. The Plus irons are nice but do not have the square grooves which are now illegal and REALLY make a difference - a HUGE difference in ball control. So for a great value and really good iron set the Ping Eye 2 is a solid choice.
