About the Manufacturer
Engineer and inventor Karsten Solheim got his start as an engineer working for GE in Ithaca, New York. His passion for the game set him on a journey to create a better putter. At the time he thought he was simply building it for his own personal use, but in 1959, Karsten’s ongoing garage experiments yielded an innovative putter he called 1A design. This putter had very distinctive design qualities, among them, a unique tone at impact, a sound that would echo throughout the game for generations to come…“Ping.” The Anser putter began a long and proud history of truly innovative equipment design throughout Ping’s entire product line (ultimately resulting in over 400 patents) that has set Ping at the top of the list of golf design and manufacturing companies. The company is headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona. Karsten Solheim has passed away and his son John has taken the helm.

The G2s will make a better golfer out of you

Created: 11/08/06
If you are a beginner who wants to improve his/her game, but don't want to pay a fortune for a set, these are the best bargain on Ebay. The G2 HL clubs are designed to get the ball up for slower swing speeds. Even if you are a powerful striker, the loft and Center of Gravity will help minimize spin, which will increase accuracy. Center hits fly with a great feel and amazingly effortless flight.

The PING clubs can be great for you if you buy the right ones fit for you. Ping helps to make this easier, especially for you folks buying on Ebay, and not in a store. I did the static fit on Ping.com and previously had a local professional fit me dynamically. Because of this, I found the perfect match for me and I'm not afraid to buy them online. The website even tells you which shaft to go with if you know how far you typically hit your 6 iron. I found that by working on tempo and not trying to kill the ball, I am able to gain considerable distance and accuracy over my old irons (Titleist DCI 990) just by using these clubs and slowing it down a bit.

When you buy the proper length and lie, you will be amazed at how much better you strike the ball.

My point is this; get a solid fitting in before you buy any irons. They might be a good deal, but there is a reason Ping fits you to the club.

About the Ping irons. These irons play well. I found it easy to shape shots from right to left. It was a bit more difficult left to right, but I've never been able to do that well anyhow. Because I was able to let the club hit the ball and control my tempo better, the ball flight is consistent and the carry is, too. My accuracy has increased dramatically, as well. Especially from the 8 iron down to the pitching wedge. The shot trajectory is much higher and softer landing with these and I don't get a lot of roll. Again, especially from the 8 iron down.

I attribute a lot of the improvements to the change in my tempo, but I give the Pings the credit for helping me change the tempo of my swing and really feel what I am doing with the shot more than that of other irons I have hit. Mishits are not so bad either. You really have to shank the ball or leave the clubface open to mess a shot up with these.

Expect to pay more for the various graphite shafts. The Ping custom WRX clubs are usually more as well. If you find a set of Pingss with a matching sand wedge, jump on them because the sand wedges are hard to find individually.

A lot of times, the owners name has been applied to the club. I found you can get this off easily with acetone and light sandpaper if it is screened in and not etched. You might ask the seller when this is listed this way.

In addition, if you are not very good at the long irons (2,3, and 4) you may want to look at the G5 hybrids. I have them too. If you hit the ball hard, but typically slice or hook, the hybrids dramatically reduce the mishit effect.

Be careful when bidding. There are some demo clubs floating around out there. Check with the seller for serial numbers as all Ping consumer clubs have them. Pay attention to feedback scores. This is Ebay's barometer of service. I swear by the feedback system.

I hope you found this info helpful.

PING G2HL - Forgiving Game Improvement Irons

Created: 16/04/11
Got 10 G2HL (hL being High Launch) irons in total for a great price. The irons being 3HL 4HL 5-PW LW SW with Ping TFC 100 graphite shafts Stiff. These are very forgiving and easy to hit and get off the ground. When I hit the 4HL-i for the first time i was amazed; the ball flight was high, long, and straight. Usually I can't hit 3 and 4 irons too well and use a hybrid but these are great. As for the LW I rather use my Ping iwedges instead. The graphite shafts are good at absorbing vibrations. The feel is very soft when hit square on and even with mishits. All in all I really like this set and I think they are great for beginners. Just remember to get fitted or use Pings webfit to find your dot colour and you'll enjoy these too.

(other irons used: nike slingshot 4d, ping zing, and ping eye2+ becu)

great clubs

i allways have a problem getting the ball up because of my slow swing but these are buy far the best for me even the 4 iron with the wide sole looks like an 7 iron going up and getting about 180 yards in the air.i also love the wegdes P,S and lob wegde that came with this set it's got great weight and you can feel the weight in your fingers for great control and they are 3* degrees upright wich was a concern for me i was mesured once a long time ago for 1* flat but what the upright does is just removes the right for me harder to fade the ball so now they go straight or a light pull wich allmost looks like a draw, you just cannot go wrong with PING-CLUBS evn though these are older PINGS they are a great set of clubs and i am a bit of club junkie and i have had a lot of clubs over the years from cleveland to titlest to callaway i think these clubs are for me thank you PING

Ping G2 Irons

Created: 05/12/07
I purchased a used set of G2's last winter on ebay. I was changing to regular flex steel shafts from stiff. I was hitting a set of Ping ISI-K's previously. I thought they were a forgiving set of clubs. These are excellent. I have no problems getting the ball in the air with these, even with mis-hits. My set included the 3HL and 4HL irons. I don't use the 3 (7 wood instead), but the 4HL is much easier to hit than a standard 4 iron. The distance on the entire set is quite good, and the shorter irons put enough spin on the ball to make it stop on the greens. I would have liked to get a set with the Cushin insert (for vibration reduction), but they don't seem to be readily available. It didn't seem to matter much, as mis-hits don't feel bad in your hands.

ping as always a leader in iron manufacturer

great clubs, very similar to G5's. i did have G5's but they are the same club in my opinion just cheaper. At least with this set you can get HL a huge consideration factor. Very forgiving, give a great confidence boost to the higher handicap player. not a blade iron more like a cavity back, get fitted by a pro before buying. stick with ebay as you can probably save a few hundered $$$'s than your local ping fitter. as with other reviews i find ping irons the best on the market, i've tried nike slingshot, callaway berthas, mcgregors to name a few and they dont come close. try them, you won't be dissapointed!
