P.U.L.S.E. Live at Earls Court 10.20.94, London

Created: 05/06/07
When I was a Masters student in 1994, I traveled to the U. of Iowa to present at a conference. While walking outside that night over the campus bridge, all of a sudden, a burst of fabulous lights & Pink Floyd came flowing vibrantly clear sounds across the campus. We could see & hear their whole concert from our vantage point. Who cared about having a seat for it? We were on our feet the whole time, standing mesmerized.

I was a die-hard fan by 1974, after the 1973 release of the "Dark Side of the Moon," vinyl album. "The Wall," in both 2 disc CD & DVD forms became tied for Best Album with the former "Dark Side," as far as I was concerned. Who's to say which one is greater, when both are beyond the edge in every aspect, blowing every other band off the charts.

Now both albums are blended together (& more) in P.U.L.S.E., the Dolby Digital 5.1 stereo live recording at Earls Court in London, England, on October, 20th, 1994.

The double DVD set is enclosed in a colorful laminated sturdy jacket. Inside there's a pocket with a mini 'program' of all that's on both DVDs. The centerfold if full of photographs of the band playing live, including still shots of their fabulous light show. I saw those green laser-like lights that night on the Iowa campus. They lit up the starry sky (on a drenched campus that had nearly been flooded out) for what seemed like miles. I can hardly believe I get to relive that lucky moment every time I play these DVDs. No one told us, the conference attendees, that Pink Floyd was on campus! Had I known, I'd have found a way in.

In retrospect, I realize now, we had the best view outside of the stadium looking downward onto the stage from a distance because it made Pink Floyd's amazing light show all the more spectacular & grand.

If you don't know the songs on both "Dark Side of the Moon," & "The Wall," look them up in my reviews of those CDs/DVD.

Whoever first said, "you can't relive the past," was way wrong ::winking::
Watching this P.U.L.S.E. DVD set I'll testify, I surely can~

Pink Floyd - Pulse (2006, DVD)

Created: 05/09/06
This concert disc really captures the live Pink Floyd Experience! I have been to several Floyd tours over the years and always considered a Pink Floyd show as more of an event, rather than just a concert. The feeling and effects on this disc deliver the experience head-on. The first disc covers most of the post-Waters stuff with a great stage set-up and fantastic light show. The second disc features a live performance of the classic Dark Side of the Moon album. This alone is worth the price of the set. All of the old Floyd special effects and props are in use with spectacular results. You have to see it to beleive it! I bought the DVD on ebay for a very good price, so if you want a great sight and sound event in your own home, order one on ebay and turn down the lights, crank up that surround system, and blast off with one of the greatest live bands ever!

The BEST value for over 15+ hours of HQ content!

 | Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

More than 15 hours of content on 2 DVDs, costing much less than a dollar per hour of features when new, one cannot find any other comparable DVD value than Pulse by Pink Floyd. I often wonder why we accept less than 3 hours of content on DVDs today that cost at least $25, when it's obvious that DVDs can hold 7+ hours each of such super quality, high definition audio & video?

This set is JAM packed with so many features, music & videos, live performances, behind the scenes, photography & even Bootlegging the Bootleggers clips! Watching the concert footage, one can see the Eye screen shows videos, and in the special features ALL of those screen videos are included so the viewer won't miss out by just concentrating on the live performances! The stage show is an event in itself, plus the light shows & stage design blueprints are also included for those tech savvy curious geeks like me.

For fans of Pink Floyd, this set is a no-brainer bargain of such huge value, it boggles the mind. For those who are just getting into Pink Floyd, the same is true, for very little money you will explore just about every aspect of this group & how they approach their shows & appreciate their fans, to how their mind's work & who comes up with the graphic art work inherent in all the visual goods to the stories behind the songs & images.

The other reviewers covered the music & specific content, so I'm just making sure buyers know what to expect for their money, and what a value this steal is for your money, when these days we often get less and pay more; this is one time when you may find the content worth up to 4 times more than the price paid. Enjoy :-)

Pink Floyd, Pulse (2006, DVD)

Created: 10/06/07
When one hears of a concert video, one usually thinks, “Smoky hall, shot from the nosebleeds, horrible sound and songs missing.” That is not the case in Pulse, an excellent compilation of Pink Floyd’s 1994 set in Earl’s Court of London.

From the opening anticipatory buzz of the crowd to the final rolling of the credits, this two-disc set features most all of Floyd’s best: Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Another Brick in the Wall, One of These Days, Wish You Were Here, Comfortably Numb and the entire Dark Side of the Moon album on the second disc.

From a technical point of view, too, this compilation is extraordinary. The video imaging is sharp and clear from footage almost 15 years old. The sound quality, put down in 5.1 surround sound, is magnificent—the soundboard guys outdid themselves! The production and direction are also spot on, with video cuts right on beat and just the right mix of crowd shots and close ups. Of course, having one of the greatest show bands as subject matter doesn’t hurt, either.

For myself, I have recently “come back” to the music of my youth. I missed most of these guys the first time around and now must enjoy them through someone else’s eyes. This album has become a cornerstone of my growing collection of memories and is one that I have played—and enjoyed—several times since winning it.

For anyone in the same boat, or newly come to Pink Floyd, or just rock ‘n’ roll fans, this concert video is highly recommended by this reviewer For What It’s Worth!

Pink Floyd - Pulse (2006, DVD)

Created: 12/07/06
This landmark DVD features the first ever film of Pink Floyd playing the band's seminal album, The Dark Side of the Moon, live in concert. The set documents the 1994 Division Bell tour and was filmed at London's Earls Court during a record-breaking 14-night residency. The two-disc release contains the full concert performance with rare backstage footage and previously unseen extras making the collection a must-have for Pink Floyd fans.
Disc 2 features a live filmed performance of Pink Floyd--David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Rick Wright--performing the group's towering masterpiece, The Dark Side of the Moon, in its glorious entirety during the second half of the Division Bell concert. Included on disc 1 are "Shine on You Crazy Diamond," "Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)," "High Hopes," and "Learning to Fly" as well as never-before-seen rarities such as Bootlegging the Bootleggers and exclusive behind-the-scenes footage of life on the road with one of the world's biggest and most influential rock bands.

Mixed in mind-expanding 5.1 surround sound and digitally re-mastered by James Guthrie, the Pulse DVD includes some of original screen films used for the 1970s concert performances of The Dark Side of the Moon (which were never filmed) as well as the visual components for the piece which were remade for the 1994 tour.
