Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (DVD, 2003, 2-Disc Set, Special Edition)

Gore Verbinski, Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom|Theatrical release: 2003 | Rating: PG-13 (MPAA)

Movie synopsis

Loosely inspired by the time-honored Disney theme-park ride, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: THE CURSE OF THE BLACK PEARL is a swashbuckling high-seas tale directed by Gore Verbinski. When Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp), an eccentric rogue, arrives at Port Royal, he barely avoids going down with his ship. Soon enough, he's in the market for a new one, but not before he saves the life of Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley), the beautiful daughter of the governor (Jonathan Pryce). This act of bravery sets into motion a sweeping adventure involving Elizabeth's childhood friend, blacksmith Will Turner (Orlando Bloom); a mysterious medallion; and a legendary pirate ship, the Black Pearl. The Pearl's mottled Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) wants Elizabeth's doubloon necklace, and when she's kidnapped by the ol' salty dog and his crew, Sparrow and young Will must rescue her and find out the truth behind the ship's curse.Verbinski's PIRATES is a welcome throwback to Hollywood offerings of yesteryear, filled with rope-swinging heroes, crusty villains, treasure hoards, swift swordplay, and even wittier wordplay. Screenwriters Terry Rossio and Ted Elliott have crafted one of the most clever action-movie scripts in many moons, and this gives the filmmakers and cast (especially Depp) plenty of room to cut loose. Although the skeletal pirates may be a bit frightening for small children, there's lots of humor to temper the scary moments, making PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: THE CURSE OF THE BLACK PEARL a nearly flawless fun film.

Disney suprise!! Pirates a hit

Created: 02/12/06
After almost pulling the plug on the movie (due to Depp's "odd" Pirate performance) Disney launched one of the biggest hits of the year. 2 follow up movies are scheduled.

From producer Jerry Bruckheimer (PEARL HARBOR) comes PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: THE CURSE OF THE BLACK PEARL, the thrilling high-seas adventure with a mysterious twist. The roguish yet charming Captain Jack Sparrow's (Academy Award(R) Nominee Johnny Depp) idyllic pirate life capsizes after his nemesis, the wily Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush), steals his ship, the Black Pearl, and later attacks the town of Port Royal, kidnapping the governor's beautiful daughter Elizabeth (Keira Knightley). In a gallant attempt to rescue her and recapture the Black Pearl, Elizabeth's childhood friend Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) joins forces with Jack. What Will doesn't know is that a cursed treasure has doomed Barbossa and his crew to live forever as the undead. Rich in suspense-filled adventure, sword-clashing action, mystery, humor, unforgettable characters, and never-before-seen special effects, PIRATES is a must-have epic on the grandest scale ever.

This is one the whole family will enjoy with Adventure and Excitement, it is Humorous and even Romantic! Adventure on the high sea really entices the senses for adventure. Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) plays a wonderful role of this mysterious, sometimes funny, charming pirate. His ship the Black Pearl has been stolen by Captain Barbosa (Geoffrey Rush). Captain Jack Sparrow finds himself stranded and jailed in a town called Point Royal. Here lives the govenor's beautiful daughter Elizebeth (Keira Knightly)and her childhood friend Will Turner (Orlando Bloom), whom she had rescued from the sea at an early age. Captain Barbosa and his crew attack the town and kidnap Elizabeth in hopes to remove the horrible curse put on them, living forever as the undead. Will teams up with escaped Jack Sparrow and the adventure escalates as they steal a ship called the Gauntlet. They race to save Elizabeth and Jack Sparrow's ship the Black Pearl. On their heels is the ship called the Interceptor, the Commodore at the wheel fighting for justice. Be prepared for some wonderful stunts and sword fights with a crew of the gory undead pirates. The Pirates Code finds new limits to reality!

Awsome Movie!!

Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp), a young pirate left abandoned on an island by his First Mate Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush), escapes and heads for the Caribbean’s English stronghold, Port Royal, to continue his pirating. But Barbossa, in the ship stolen from Jack, the infamous, Black Pearl, attacks the port to ransack it with his mutinous crew, and in the process, kidnaps the Governor’s (Jonathan Pryce) beautiful daughter, Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley). Elizabeth’s childhood friend, the young blacksmith Will Turner (Orlando Bloom), joins forces with Jack to commandeer the fastest ship in the British fleet, the H.M.S. Interceptor, in a gallant attempt to rescue her and recapture the Black Pearl. Unbeknownst to Will, a cursed treasure has doomed Barbossa and his crew to live forever as the undead, the moonlight eerily transforming them into living skeletons. The curse can be broken only if the plundered treasure is restored in total and a blood debt repaid.

Pirates Of The Caribbean:Curse Of The Black Pearl(2003)

Created: 28/08/07
Loosely based on the extremely popular Disneyland ride, this film did very well at the box office. The directior - Jerry Bruckheimer manages to capture several of the popular scenes from the ride and transfer them to the film, such as the town mayor being dunked into the well, the dog w keys in the cell and the ship graveyard. The characters were well portrayed in the picture with the help of Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Kiera Knightly, Geoffrey Rush and Jack Davenport. Captain Jack Sparrow,(Depp) lands at Port Royal to grab himself a ship to go after Barbossa,(Rush) however upon arrival he runs into William Turner,(Bloom) and discovers that he is the rightful heir of the pirate madallian that is currently owned by Elizabeth Swan,(Kightly). With the 'leverage', Sparrow grabs himself a crew and sets sail for the Isle of Dimquerta. The film was classified as one of the top three summer films of 2003, in which Johnny Depp stole the show and became a pirate icon. The film did well enough for two sequals to be released in 2006, (Dead Man's Chest) and 2007(At World's End). Who knows if there are more to come, but this film alone will stand the test of time right next to the ride itself.
