    Publisher's Note
Before you see the movie, read the original novel!

First published more than thirty-five years ago, Pierre Boulle’s chilling novel launched one of the greatest science fiction sagas in motion picture history, from the classic 1968 movie starring Charlton Heston and Roddy McDowell, through four sequels and two television series . . . and now the newest film adaptation directed by Tim Burton.

In the not-too-distant future, three astronauts land on what appears to be a planet just like Earth, with lush forests, a temperate climate, and breathable air. But while it appears to be a paradise, nothing is what it seems.

They soon discover the terrifying truth: On this world humans are savage beasts, and apes rule as their civilized masters. In an ironic novel of nonstop action and breathless intrigue, one man struggles to unlock the secret of a terrifying civilization, all the while wondering: Will he become the savior of the human race, or the final witness to its damnation? In a shocking climax that rivals that of the original movie, Boulle delivers the answer in a masterpiece of adventure, satire, and suspense.

A satiric view of today's human society is presented in this portrait of a team of astronauts stranded on a planet where humans and apes have exchanged roles. Reprint. (Tie-in to the new Twentieth Century Fox film, directed by Tim Burton, premiering July 27, 2001, starring Mark Wahlberg, Helena Bonham Carter, Tim Roth, and Michael Clarke Duncan, with cameos by George Clooney and Charlton Heston) (Science Fiction & Fantasy)

Presents a satiric view of modern society in a portrait of a planet where humans and apes have exchanged roles.

Planet of the Apes (Great read)

I am a fan of the Planet of the Apes movies saga. I had never read the book that it was all based on. I finally did. I bought the book for $1 and spent a couple days reading it. It was great. I think that any Sci-Fi fan or Planet of the Apes fan should definitely read this book. I would class it in with classics such as 1984, Brave New World, or Fahrenheit 451. It is a great read. I would recommend it for everyone.

Great read. :) This book really warps your view of civilization. My mind was so boggles reading this book thinking that men were "apes" and apes were the "men". I bought this product to read for my Sci Fi class. Was a great and quick read. Makes you think.

Planet of the Apes by Boulle

Needed it for a school project - comparing orginal and modern versions, as wellas a comparison of novel versus film. Good book with lots of twists and turns. Storyline comparable to original with modern adaptations to keep it interesting for the youth crowd. Recommend book

this book is the revealing nightmare of an upsidedown universe where ape rule over man. pierre boule himslf truly underestimated the potential of this book. this is the story of evolution gone reversed. it's a chiller! highly recommended!
