PLANET OF THE APES TV show 1974
Created: 06/06/06
It was a show that I enjoyed as a kid but was short lived because the CBS tv network was too stupid to try and place the show on another night while it competed against Sanford and Son and Chico and the Man on Friday prime time. Those two shows were the top shows at the time during 1974 and remained that way for a few more years to come! CBS did the same to another cult icon show some 7 years earlier. That show was LOST IN SPACE. IT is interesting to wonder how these shows might have impacted if network television hadn't been so stupid.
This TV adaptation of the Planet of the Apes was fun and had plenty of adventure too go along with it. One of the most fascinating characters of the show was General Urko played by Mark Lenard who too most Star Trekies knew him as Sarek aka Mr. Spock's father added a real touch of class that could make most Planet of the Ape fans go ape!

I have all the Planet of the Apes movies and had all but forgotten about the t.v. series until I saw the DVD's listed on ebay. I just about went bananas and did some real crazy dance moves when I won the set! I love the series and am watching one episode per week just like in the 70's when the series was on t.v. I have always loved Roddy McDowell. The fact that he appears in the t.v. series after having starred in all of the films is just such a bonus. I don't think the show would have been "real" without him. It is a blast watching this show again! I am so happy that I found them and then WON them on ebay!!
