    Movie synopsis

This Emmy Award-winning television drama tells the story of a group of women prisoners in Auschwitz who survived the gas chambers by playing in a small orchestra. Based on a true story.A powerful adaptation of Holocaust survivor Fania Fanelon's autobiography. Fanelon, a Jewish singer-pianist, was imprisoned in the Auschwitz concentration camp during World War II. There, she was able to stay alive by becoming a member of the prison's female orchestra. In the process, she struck up a close relationship with Alma Rose, the musical group's leader, as well as the other members of the band. Playing for the Nazis, however, robbed the women of much of their dignity and most of them often questioned whether remaining alive was worth the abuse they constantly suffered.

I've loved this movie for years. I'm very happy to own it now. The sound is very faint. So, it's kind of tough to watch and hear what's going on. I haven't seen this movie in 20 years so I don't remember some of the dialog. It's a great film.

Saw the movie long ago, and remembered the impact I got from this movie. Vanessa did an awesome job in this movie....it depicted the humanities of this woman and all the other actors in this movie also. This movie needs to be on DVD.

When you know the story, the title is fitting.

This is a wonderful movie, which is as relevant today as it was when it first came out. Since you never seen it shown on tv anymore, I wanted to buy a copy. It is an eye-opener as to how humans treat humans. We can learn from it.
