Fabulous collection of PMC / Precious Metal Clay art
Created: 05/05/07
PMC Decade is a fantastic book that will appeal not only to metal clay artists but also to anyone who appreciates contemporary art and design.
Well-known and respected metalsmith, teacher, author, jeweler and PMC expert Tim McCreight has collected the best representative examples of "The First Ten Years of Precious Metal Clay" in the United States.
The core of the book is "The Decade" - a gorgeous gallery of more than 200 examples of extraordinary PMC jewelry and other metal clay designs from the past ten years. McCreight has included a wonderful and varied group of artists and art to represent this first decade of PMC's use as an artistic medium. Each piece is presented in a single, large photo, one per page, which makes it more like the experience of seeing art in a physical gallery and allows the amazing details in each design to show clearly.
The editorial content includes McCreight's personal retrospective of the invention and introduction of PMC, an essay by renowned metalsmith and jewelry artist Donald Friedlich on PMC's "Progress and Potential," and an explanation of "The Science of PMC" by physicist Darnall Burks (with fascinating electron microscope images of sintered PMC by Tina Carvalho).
This book is visually lush and its content inspiring. Whether you are a current or would-be metal clay artist or artisan or simply someone who appreciates fine art, you'll get a lot of pleasure from this terrific book.
