Point of No Return (DVD, 1998)

John Badham, Bridget Fonda|Theatrical release: 1993 | Rating: R (MPAA)

Movie synopsis

In a grim future America, Maggie (Bridget Fonda), a beautiful young street punk, is about to be executed for killing a cop during a robbery, and is given the choice between death or becoming a government assassin. She accepts the latter and is trained in all manner of martial (and feminine) arts. She ably carries out her deadly assignments, and is groomed to become a powerful killer. Maggie is given a new identity, becomes the seductive Claudia, and is sent to Venice, California, where she begins her new life. But the training takes only too well: the formerly amoral murderess proceeds to fall in love with a photographer (Dermot Mulroney) and develop a conscience. Now she wants out, but the government isn't about to let her go without a fight. Director John Badham's remake of French director Luc Besson's LA FEMME NIKITA is a stylish and thrilling adaptation, featuring a solid performance from Bridget Fonda.

Point of No Return is one those movies that proves my point that movie critics are idiots. This movie got no respect. All the movies critics thought the original film La Femme Nikita which this based on was much superior. All I can say to that is they are full of bologna. Bridget Fonda is a much superior actress than Anne Parillaud and a lot better looking. I think the general opinion is that the only Fonda's worth mentioning are Jane and Henry Fonda. This is a real shame because she is a good actress. The action scenes are much better in Point of No Return. The scene in the restaurant where she takes the guy out then dives through the laundry shute. The movie has an excellent cast including Dermot Mulroney,Gabriel Byrne,Anne Bancroft, and Harvey Keitel. John Badham is the director of the movie. He almost always make good action films like Wargames and Stakeout among others. Don't miss this first rate action film.
One of the better films about an assassin.

this is an action pact movie with great music ( i love nina simone) basically a girl in a bad situation gets the choice of become an assassin or being put to death for crimes she had committed. now maggie must learn all the skills to do the jobs she is assigned before she can go back out in the world. when she is released she meets a man who falls in love with her and now she is torn between him and the life she has chosen.
i also watched LA FEMME NAKITA and the lines are almost verbatim only the locations and actors have changed.

One of my most favorite movies. Not for young eyes. Takes one into a realm of fantasy, but is also a reality in some cases. Lose yourself in her world, but remember, you are not really in her world the movie just makes you feel that.
A great way to spend time and forget your worries. Movie is wonderful in all aspects, Bridget Fonda is fabulous, but not a profession that is a chosen life for most, as was with her character. Watch the movie, forget about everything else and then come back to reality afterwards.
Her strength makes you feel like you could accomplish anything, although, in reality, not the same way.
I highly recommend this movie to carry you to a world beyond and then appreciate life as you know it.
In the end, the movie shows the toll the life could take on someone and that crime does not pay.

Seriously, I don't know why E-Bay "needs" people to write a "review" of a movie? Especially one this old. This is one of my all time favorites. I purchased the movie because my HD crashed and lost the original. I'm not a movie reviewer, I'm a movie watcher. I have seen this movie at least 25 times and will watch it another 25 times before I die. If you liked Die Hard, any of the Terminator movies (except the last one that sux) XXX, Faster, The Fifth Element- you will enjoy this movie. Action packed, great story (although not as detailed as the movie it was based on- La Femme NAkita) Yet overall a great movie. I think I'll watch it again tonight.
