Pokemon Blue Version (Nintendo Game Boy, 1998)

I bought this game simply because it harkens back to the days of yore, when everything was simpler and i had nothing to worry about other than getting my chores done and whether I got good grades on my math assignments. However it turned out to be much more than that. It allowed me to relive my childhood as a 23yr old and its so wonderful to have that part of my past back. Now enough about myself on to the game.

Pokemon, as we well know, is a game series about collecting, training, and trading creatures, some small, some massive. This is one of the two games that started it all. To see the game back in all it's 8-bit glory is a wonderful change of pace from Today's games. It seems to be all about graphical presentation rather than gameplay and story telling now. Pokemon blue in particular (and it's counter parts Red and Yellow) are far simpler and are better for it. To see a tiny character sprite in a monochrome world brings a tear of nostalgia to my eye. The game is still fun, from capturing a random Pidgey to fighting the Elite Four. To see a game still have such re playability 14 years later is something to behold. Sure it's not the most graphically pleasing, but it's got it where it counts, gameplay and fun. The game is still loads of fun and requires moderate strategy. While it's no Final Fantasy it's still an RPG and, like all RPGs, requires strategy and planning, e.g. you can't expect to go into battle with a Lv. 60 raticate and expect a Lv2 Pidgey to come out the winner. You also have to take types into account. Fire is weak to water, whereas water is weak to grass, and grass is weak to fire. and so one. And as a 10 year old when this game was release here in the states, it was my first true experience with an RPG of any kind. It's wonderful getting back to basics and seeing how far we've come

This game is a classic! Without a doubt it is the best gameboy color game ever made.

It's one of those games that you can play over and over again because of how many different pokemon you can use. I had fun playing this game when it first came out and I still have fun playing it now!




Pros: -It does NOT GET OLD! You Can literally play it over and over again, choosing different pokemon each time.
-Good mix of Adventure, Role-Playing, and Strategy.
-Classic that will bring you back to your childhood.





Cons: -Difficult at times if you don't have a guide to help you out.

The game which helped further Pokemon Culture worldwide, and allowed children everywhere to be a Pokemon master, Pokemon Blue! Released in 1998, this version was released in America, and possibly world wide (Original Japanese version was Pokemon Green, it was not translated). This, along with red, was the first Pokemon game released from Game Freak and Nintendo, which also began a 14 year collection of games from the same Franchise.
Your journey begins in Pallet town as you go to pick your first Pokemon partner for life. NOTE: This game DOES NOT follow the Pokemon series storyline, that would be Pokemon Yellow. After meeting Professor Oak, and your rival, you pick your starter Pokemon from any of the three legendary starters: Charizard, Bulbasaur, or Squirtle. From there you will meet 150 other Pokemon on your journey, challenge 8 Gym Leaders, while battling your rival, and foiling the nefarious Team Rocket's plans.

This game is very easy to play, the "A" button is your select, while "B" is to cancel. You have a drop down menu, which appears whenever you press Start, that organizes your Pokemon, your bag, your information, as well as your save menu. As for gameplay, it is dated for its age, well over 14 years old, but it is a classic. There is no running, you cannot use the Select short cut for items, and wrap unables you to attack. However, it is very well put together for an old game. Most Pokemon moves are the same as they are today, and are still as effective. I personally think it is nice to remember the original 150 Pokemon that became famous from the series from the 90s.

I give this game a 5 out of 5 and recommend it to all Pokemon fans (New and Old) as well as any game enthusiast who is looking for a challenge. The game is Rated E and is age appropriate for all ages :)

It is an excellent game, great music, very fun, any fan of the series should really consider buying this. A great time, and less expensive than it's mirror image counterpart Pokemon Red, this game will allow you to catch 140 of the original 150 Pokemon, there is no worry of having to get games from another generation to complete the Pokedex. A simple plot of collecting Pokemon and Gym Badges to become the greatest trainer ever will lead players on a journey meeting many friends, such as Bill and Mr. Fuji, defeating an evil gangster corporation that steals other trainers' Pokemon called Team Rocket, and have a friendly competition with a rival along the way. With shocking plot twists toward the end of the game, players will have to keep the will to win the battle against the strongest trainer and become the best until three years later, when Pokemon Gold and Silver will renew the journey in a brand new region with 100 new Pokemon to find and catch.

I got this game way back when it came out as a gift, and since then I can honestly say that ive never sold it, lost it, or not played it because it was boring or frustrating.

5/5 on fun factor- Great game, doesnt matter if its your first time through or 15th time its still fun. Also its always a great excitment trying to catch all 150 pokemon (151 with mew). You can play against friends very easily also which is great.

4/5 on graphics- Not great now a days, but when it came out it wasnt to bad. Its not to dated because most know what to expect from original gameboy games.

5/5 replay value- Like I stated earlier you can play this game several tiems through. Try different ways, see if you can beat it with only 1 pokemon. It has that rare replay value that the game doesnt really get old ever.

5/5 on Story- The story is good. Its not to complicating. Its mainly you start off with a rival and try to become the best pokemon trainer and capture all the pokemon.
