Pokemon - Season 1: Indigo League (DVD, 2006, 3-Disc Set, Dubbed)

I LOVE this first season of Pokemon. For those of you who watch the newer episodes, except for the Orange Islands and a few Chronicles episodes, they just don't compare. As far as anime goes, it's extremely family friendly. Unlike in most, there's no blood or cursing, or even recognizable "dirty" references (for kids, anyway. Those of us who are older will have a field day with all the hidden stuff that kids are completely oblivious to). It's also much less ridiculous and redundant than newer episodes, although there are a few that get a bit old. I really wish that Team Rocket were a bit... well... smarter. It just gets so old watching them blast off again and again- and I really love TR! But they really are pathetic as far as antagonists go.

Overall, the concept of the world of Pokemon fascinates me. Although it's a bit improbable for people to survive constant electric shocks and fire, the real meat hidden behind the kiddy exterior is absolutely amazing. If one can use their imagination to figure out what "really" happens in the world of Pokemon, they'll become enthralled. Guaranteed.

I HAVE BEEN A FAN OF POKEMON FOR 13 YEARS. I FORGOT HOW MUCH FUN IT WAS TO SEE ASH KETCHUM CATCH HIS FIRST SIX POKEMON. PIKACHU,CATERPIE,PIGEOTTO,BULB​ASAUR,CHARMANDER,AND SQUIRTLE.WHAT A TEAM!,BUT OF COURSE WHEN ASH LET HIS EVOLVED BUTTERFREE GO TO FLY ACROSS THE OCEAN IT WAS BITTERSWEET.I ALL BUT FORGOT HOW GREAT A CHARACTER MISTY WAS.HER CONSTANT BICKERING WITH ASH IS ALWAYS FUN TO WATCH.LATER SEASONS HAVE TRIED TO BRING IN A DYNAMIC PERSONALITY LIKE MISTY'S SADLY NONE CAN MATCH HER. BROCK'S CHARACTER EVOLUTION IS APPARANT IN THESE EARLY EPISODES. TEAM ROCKET IS STILL TEAM ROCKET. I HATED THE OLD TEAM MOTTO AND AM REMINDED WHY IN EACH EPISODE. EKANS AND KOFFING ARE GREAT POKEMON I WISH THEY'D BRING THEM BACK EVEN FOR ONE EPISODE. THE POKERAP AT THE END OF EACH DISC IS A GREAT THROWBACK AND I LOOK FORWARD TO GETTING THE OTHER PARTS TO THE INDIGO SEASON OF POKEMON. IF YOU ARE A FAN OF POKEMON I RECOMMEND WATCHING THE CLASSIC EPISODES TO ENHANCE YOU ENJOYMENT.

10 years ago I started watching pokemon, now my daughter who is 6 is obsessed with it. I bought this for both reasons. For the crowd who was there when Ash got his first Pokemon it is a great leap back in time. For the crowd who may have just learned to love Pokemon I've discovered this is actually a refreshing change from newer seasons which don't have the fresh comedy the first season has. (My daughter laughed at Ash's inexperience when bringing out Caterprie to fight Pigeotto.) My only disappointment is that it isn't the whole season, just the first 26 episodes and at the time of writing this there is no date set for the second half of the season. I had truly forgotten how much fun this show was. If you were a Pokemon fan, or still are, go buy this set.

This dvd set really brings me back to waking up on Saturday mornings in elementary school. See the original first season of Pokemon on DVD. This is Volume 1 of a 3 volume set. My only complaint with the DVD set is the way the DVD was made. There seems to be some issue when skipping forward a scene or two on the "Play All" feature. It will generally take you back an episode, and you will have to exit to the menu to reset and get to the scene you are interested in.

Otherwise, GREAT series, GREAT dvd set, and overall a good purchase.

This show is a classic... It's lighthearted, creative and original. Simply put, it's fun! The first season is only the beginning of what is now a worldly phenomenon. This show also contains life lessons for it's younger viewers. There is not one person in need whom the main characters won't help out, they never give up, and they work together, showing that friendship can withstand any obstacle.
