They took the sensible route, culling the best tunes from each album and assembling them chronologically, with a couple of previously unreleased bonus cuts thrown in to spice things up. The band's herky-jerky, nerd-with-a-guitar CBGB's days are represented by the anthemic "Psycho Killer." The expansion of their sonic palette is marked by their quirky cover of Al Green's "Take Me to the River" and the African-sounding "I Zimbra."The revolutionary funk-new wave hybrid of REMAIN OF LIGHT in the form of "Crosseyed and Painless" and the transcendent "Once in a Lifetime." "Burning Down the House" represents the concept of T-Heads as intellectual party band. The inclusion of some fiery live cuts makes it clear that the band could lay it down on the stage as well as in the studio. POPULAR FAVORITES is an ideal introduction to/overview of one of the late-1970s/early-'80s most important bands.

Talking Heads: Sand in the Vaseline, Popular Favorites

No classic rock / new wave (?) collection would be complete without the Talking Heads. The 1-cd greatest hits collection is very good, but u need at least 2 cd's full of their best work to really get the full flavor & variety.
This is excellent & highly recommended, even if u don't already know if u like them.

Great Overview of Talking Heads

Created: 08/01/09
Having not knowing much about the talking heads I purchased this 2cd collection on half.com. It gave me a really good understanding of the talking heada and what they were all about. After listening to these 2 cds a couple of times I really got into the talking heads. It gives a great overview of their career, first when they were a progressive rock band then when they became more of a new wave rock band. It's a great start for anyone who is thinking about gwtting into the talking heads.

Reeling in the years

Created: 11/04/09
Lets see now class of 79 so much the rocker back then. Talking Heads burned up the airwaves. Was not much a an album collector back then. Talking Heads had some really good hits which I remember the words to well. This cd has them all and if it is missing any I'm not missing it. I put on and get my dose and then find another cd for my enjoyment. Not thinking this band had the kind of music that you needed the whole album to have an experince. Some like Floyd and Zep and Eagles to me did. However it was and still is a great party music band and all most all the songs on here are ones that play over in my younger mind.

Great CD for Talking Heads fans!

Created: 02/11/08
I had looked to find a compilation CD that included all my favorite Talking Heads songs. I especially wanted it to feature the song "Stay Up Late" - this was the one compilation CD I found that contained that song.
I found several concert versions of songs on this CD where I might rather have had the original studio versions. That was the only possible drawback.
All in all, I really enjoyed this CD, and plan to listen to it for years to come!

Talking Heads CD 1976-1992 Sand in the Vaseline

Created: 13/02/08
It's a classic Talking Heads 2-CD set with all the tunes they're know for. This set contains all of their classics with a few "unknowns" (at least to me) thrown in for good measure.
