Quantaray's 70-300mm F4-5.6 LDO MACRO SUPER is one of several new telephoto zoom lenses. It is a compact Apochromatic telephoto zoom lens incorporating two Special Low Dispersion (LDO) glass elements in the front lens group, plus one Special Low Dispersion glass element in the rear lens group, to minimize chromatic aberration. It is a Tele-Macro Zoom lens, capable of focusing down to 1: 2 (half life-size) reproduction ratio at 300mm focal length with superb optical quality. A large (72mm filter size) front element lets in a good ammount of light and creates a beautiful depth, however, the length makes it near impossible to hand hold shots at the wide end.
The quality is much more solid than any Pentax kit lens you'll see, and much better than past Quantaray lenses I've used. I am extremely pleased with the quality of this build.
The pentax screw-type auto focus is slowed down considerably on a lens with a range like this one, and it can be thrown off in low light situations, and that is my only complaint.
As far as zoom lenses go, this piece takes very sharp images.

However, some of those lenses cost five and ten times as much as this one, so in terms of value-for-dollar, it rates an excellent. As reasonably priced consumer zooms go, this one is tough to beat, and you have to push it pretty hard (high contrast shots at 300mm, wide open) for its weaknesses to show. For the most part, it delivers thoroughly decent image quality. Recommended for those who want something that is the perfect balance between long, cheap, and good.

Its a great lens for the pentax brand. You can't beat the price PERIOD! You acn get this lens brand new for $75-ow long it $125 dollers! Yes I know its the ritz.com generic lens but it take awsome pictures. I not sure how long they will last but at least I didnt pay 200-500 bucks

this lens is awesome!! works very well with my pentax k-x!!
i gave it an overall 4/5 only because the focus ring is so touchy. to get the focus exactly right on your subject takes some getting used to.

Works great with my Pentax k7! nice zoom and quick focus for the size of the lens. Heavy though..............................................
