The board in the 696f ssb is the same board used in many Galaxy base radio's and there made by RCI Ranger Communications. There are many after market items available for this unit. It also has weather channels, This is a great feature
that should come in handy during bad weather and getting advanced warning-

) This radio is fairly simple to work inside. They are available although perhaps the service and operating manuals are not so easy to find. Can be openned up to work more channels, and/or the 10m band. And can be mildly power boosted exchanging a few parts. Note that transmitting with modifications to the original specifications is not legal in the USA unless you are a liscensed ham. Receiving you can do pretty much whatever you please.

) tHIS IS AN AFFORDABLE RADIO THAT IS GREAT FOR SOMEONE WHO'S NEW INTO CB-ING.tHE RADIO PERFORMS WELL AN THEIR ARE SOME MODIFICATIONS THAT ARE AVALIABLE FOR IT.i THINK THAT THE CABINET DESIGN IS TOO BIG AN THAT THEIR ARE SOME FEATURES THAT AREN'T NEEDED LIKE TALKBACK AND THE WEATHER BANDS.tHIS ISN'T A MOBILE UNIT SO THOSE FEATURES AREN'T REALLY NEEDED.aLL IN AL ITS A GOOD RADIO FOR THE BEGINNER AND I'D RECCOMENT BUYIN IT IF YOU ARE A BEGINNER.
