RCA COUNTRY LEGENDS concentrates primarily on her work from the mid 1960s to the early '70s, a period when West was arguably at her best, as evidenced by her many charting hits from the time ("Here Comes My Baby," "Would You Hold It Against Me," and "Paper Mansions," among them, all of which are here). But this set isn't merely a collection of singles (fans looking for a tidy summary of West's chart-toppers should look to THE ESSENTIAL DOTTIE WEST). Instead, this RCA package includes a nice mix of lesser-known album tracks alongside the hits, making it an even-handed representation of the period. All of the work on this top-notch comp boasts the classic Nashville sound of the period and, of course, West's alluring vocals.
