You know where this film is going the minute you put the disc in your Blu ray player. This is feelgood family entertainment, but its the journey, not the ending that counts! It's a derivative of a story "Steel" by noted Sci-Fi author Richard Matheson that appeared on the Twilight Zone TV series where noted character actor Lee Marvin played a fight manager who substitutes for his robot fighter "Battling Maxo" in a future where humans no longer fight. Here the real stars are the Animatronic robot fighters and they are amazing to watch. Hugh Jackman gives a yeomanlike performance and is believeable as washed-out fighter Charlie Kenton (courtesy of training from Sugar Ray Leonard). The lovely Evangeline Lilly doesn't get enough time as the love interest Bailey. The young boy Max (Dakota Goyo)walks a fine line between endearing and borderline annoying at first. The villain is a large black robot named Apollo (sorry,ZEUS!)who looks undefeatable. You can only root for the underdog outdated robot ATOM, who is more expressive than you might think. Just watch and be carried along. It's a great popcorn movie and evenings entertainment. Immaculate Blu ray picture and sound. You won't be disappointed!

I don't know which I like better. The fact that they've made the game "Blockheads" in to a movie or the charm of the a boy relating to his father.
I liked this movie. Sure it's an old plot, but this new spin is very pleasing entertainment wise.
I loved the machines. I loved that this was a down to earth, not other worldly, story about modern robots. Well done! The special effects seemed real and not digitized. Which really helps the story.
This is the sort of film you can share with kids and get something from it yourself.
Brilliant, edgy with a family undertone. Watch it.
Here's to a robot's long life!
Blessings, Max Rainet.

No pretenses here, just good, solid entertainment for the whole family. You won't regret spending 2 hours with this one. It's a kick to see the characters progress as they rise from obscurity to the spotlight and the robotic CG is as good as it gets. Don't expect anything deep or compelling, just enjoy the ride. If I had any detraction to state, it would be that I found the kid to be a little over the top, but not enough to mark the film down. Good fun!

My younger boys can watch this movie all day if I let them. This is an excellent family movie with a relatable story line. At first I thought about maybe it could be violent but after actually watching the movie, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND purchasing this movie for your kids.

I purchased this movie as it reminded me of Rock 'em Sock 'em Robots. I almost always like underdog stories. I liked the way the movie ended as it was not (totally) predictable. The boy would have to be a genius to do all the things that he did so that made the story kind of unbeleivable. Kids will enjoy this movie and give it more stars than I did.
