Movie synopsis

A group of former government assassins fights back against the CIA after they're targeted for knowing too much in this adaptation of Warren Ellis' acclaimed DC Comics graphic novels. Frank Moses (Bruce Willis) used to be a hired gun for the CIA. Along with Joe (Morgan Freeman), Marvin (John Malkovich), and Victoria (Helen Mirren), Frank's specialty was carrying out contracts that the government didn't want the public to know about. These days, Frank and his old gang are all retired, but the powers that be are still concerned that they know too much, and dispatch a team of top assassins to ensure their silence. Now, Frank and his former team members realize that their only hope for survival is to break into CIA headquarters and expose the truth. But once they're in, the group uncovers evidence of a massive cover-up that promises to rock the very foundation of our government. Karl Urban, Brian Cox, Richard Dreyfuss, and Ernest Borgnine co-star., MIGHTY MACHINES teaches kids and adults about many different contraptions that vehicles used in various aspects of modern life. This edition concerns itself with different elements of cars one sees on the road every day.

Movie trailer and editorial reviews

"[A]n amusing, lightfooted caper about a team of aging CIA veterans rudely forced out of retirement."
Variety - Justin Chang (09/29/2010)

"Mirren is most at ease in her role, handling her lines with aplomb and firing automatic weapons like she means it."
Los Angeles Times - Kenneth Turan (10/15/2010)

"RED mixes high and low with a mad chemist's abandon....RED is given a hyper- and yet imaginatively stylized treatment by director Robert Schwentke..."
Movieline - Michelle Orange (10/13/2010)

"[T]his is a capable, experienced cast with extensive acting chops..." -- Grade: B-
A.V. Club - Tasha Robinson (10/14/2010)

"[W]hat keeps the movie going is the gameness of the cast, some of whom strike a perfect balance between self-consciousness and credulity."
Hollywood Reporter (10/19/2010)

"Ms. Parker is a graceful comedienne, and it's no news that Mr. Willis is a past master of delicate -- yes, delicate -- self-irony, so their characters generate welcome fizz in the course of a fraught relationship."
Wall Street Journal (10/15/2010)

3 stars out of 5 -- "Over 20 years since DIE HARD, Bruce Willis is still playing that guy -- sardonic, wisecracking, good at killing -- and it works a treat."
Empire - Angie Errigo (10/22/2010)

3 stars out of 5 -- "Willis and Parker make an appealing couple, the latter's neurotic energy fueling possibly the best onscreen partnership Willis has had since Moonlighting."
Total Film - Aubrey Day (10/01/2010)

"[I]t is Helen Mirren, as the demure Victoria Winslow, who is the real casting coup."
Sight and Sound - Sight and Sound Critic (12/01/2010)

3 stars out of 5 -- "THE EXPENDABLES proved it was profitable to assemble veteran stars....RED offers similar fare, though with a distinctly higher acting caliber."
Uncut - Michael Bonner (03/01/2011)

This movie is not for people with short attention spends

After 25 mins of this junk I decided I rather watch a true movie classic like Shane or Hondo. When will these so called action stars give up? Plot was very jumpy the love interest was goofy at best. Acting was so so 80 yr old ex CIA agent is not going to be doing a lot with stage 4 cancer sorry that is just not real. The bad guy and sub plots were poor as well. I give this movie 2 star and I am being kind at that. In today world sure makes me glad we consumers have choices on how we spend our hard earn money. In old days if you went to see a movie like this it was to bad you did not like it no money back. Now all one has to do is wait 2 weeks and it will on free TV during the midnight hr :) ;)

Great Movie!!!

Created: 26/02/11
This movie has action, fun story line, great cast and Bruce Willis playing the same roll we loved him in for... I lost count of the number of movies in the Die Hard series. With humor and action in perfect blend this movie keeps you watching and afraid to get up for a bowl of popcorn lest you miss something good. The dialogue is witty enough to need to hold the remote in order for play backs. Hilarious! A good comparison would be... well, think Chuck grown up.

RED: A fast, hot and sometimes humorous ride!

Created: 02/05/11
This is a new favorite. Bought it because rarely does Bruce W. make a poor film and I love almost everything that Morgan Freeman is in.
Action, and humor, and for a change...a new plot (not somebody who's family was killed looking for revenge). ...still enough shootem up to get your bad self going!
Enjoy...this is a keeper!

retired and DANGEROUS~ Willis, Mirren,Malkovich GREAT~

 | Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.
Created: 04/04/11
PLOT: retired CIA agents have a series of HIT squads after them but WHY?

BORED RETIRED CIA spy FRANK MOSES~ ( Willis) blends into his middle class street, a neat freak spends his days cleaning. HIS only joy is talking to his pension agent Sarah~ when an elite team of hitmen target him~ he soon is meeting up his retired buddies~ including Morgan Freeman~ Helen Mirren * John Malkovich~ AND AGAINST HER WILL~~~ KIDNAPPED VICTIM Sarah because Frank knows she will BE hit (KILLED) too~ a long ago Guatamala sting has the VICE PRESIDENT DRUG INTO THE action. lots of fun~ Mirren is elegent ~ Willis holds his own even with the YOUNGER men trying to KILL him~ and Malkovich shows his comedic charm.

AS the VERY former CIA team outclass the CIA AND secret service to get the BADDIES in the end~ great cameo by Ernest Borgnine. moves very fast you have to pay attention to stay with the plot. I GIVE IT 5 OUT OF 5 FOR GOOD SPECIAL EFFECTS, ACTING AND PLOT.
BUT one wonders what the director was thinking as the TEAM have plenty of time to discuss what to do next in the middle of rocket fire and machine gun rounds. LOL

RED = REtired & Dangerous
