Rescue Me - The Complete Second Season (DVD, 2006, 4-Disc Set)

Denis Leary, James McCaffrey|Theatrical release: 2005 | Rating: Not Rated

Movie synopsis

In this acclaimed TV dramedy, comedian Denis Leary plays Tommy Gavin, a New York fireman coping with the events of 9/11 and his own personal demons: drinking, a painful separation from his wife, and visions of his dead cousin. The other firefighters at 62 Truck aren't faring much better. Chief Reilly has a compulsive gambling addiction, ladies'-man Franco Rivera lives life fast and dangerous, and "Lou" Shea simmers with bottled-up frustrations. Season two opens with Gavin separated from his former crew and working in a Staten Island firehouse, where he tries to come to terms with his debilitating alcoholism. Adding the chaos of his life, he learns that his girlfriend, his cousin's widow, is pregnant. Leary and Emmy-winning Peter Tolan (THE LARRY SANDERS SHOW) write the gripping and darkly humorous show, which resonates with Leary's real life--his cousin, a firefighter, died in a tragic 1999 warehouse fire.

Rescue Me COMPLETE Second Season 2 Two SEALED NEW

Created: 29/05/06
Tommy Gavin (Denis Leary) is a lifesaver. Whether he is pulling survivors from fiery high-rise infernos or the twisted steel of a subway collision, Gavin takes great pride in leading the heroic but often overwhelmed firefighters of New York City's Truck Company 62. Gavin is also a man drifting between sorrow and anger over a recent separation from his wife (Andrea Roth) and three kids, and recurring memories of comrades and New Yorkers fallen victim. Leary and multiple Emmy Award-winning writer-producer Peter Tolan ("The Larry Sanders Show, Murphy Brown"), the team behind the critically-acclaimed cop drama "The Job", have re-teamed as creators, writers and executive producers of RESCUE ME.

Denis Leary's ongoing masterpiece

Created: 02/04/07
Co-creator Denis Leary's FX show Rescue Me is one of the finest examples of American television to date. Mixing complex storylines with engaging dialogue, humor and emotional depth, Leary has crafted a world most of us will only visit via Rescue Me. Every episode seems to end far too soon, leaving the viewer hungry to find out what happens next. As in real life, don't expect a happy ending every time; numerous characters have come and gone during the show's three-year run, many coming quite unexpectedly.

Centered on a New York City firehouse, Rescue Me follows the lives of several firefighters while primarily focusing on Leary's character Tommy, who is intermittently charming, duplicitous, loving, conniving and oftentimes loathsome. At the end of the day, he is, simply, human and therefore flawed. Battling substance addiction, a mistrustful ex-wife, and the rigors of his job, Tommy can be a sympathetic figure as we watch him struggle to find his way through life. In addition to real-world problems, Tommy is also frequently visited by the dead: his cousin (who died on 9/11), victims of fires he fought, and biblical characters (Jesus and Mary Magdeline).

Rescue Me offers something for nearly every viewer, and the rumored final season should bring closure on a number of fronts as the firehouse is slowly but surely coming apart. If you have not seen this show, just watch one episode and you will be hooked!

Denis Leary Fan

Created: 10/06/08
Denis Leary, who plays Tommy Gavin in this series, fits perfectly as the main character in Rescue Me. This series has comedy and drama and can really touch you. Based from the events of 9/11, Rescue Me follows the lives of the crew of Ladder 62 in New York City. With all the up and downs of family problems, alcoholism, tragedies and work ethics, this series is one of the best on TV today. This show can make you feel like you belong as part of the family of Ladder 62. I've been hooked on the show since the beginning and can't wait for the next season to start. What's in store next?

Excellent Show

Created: 09/09/07
Ths has been the best show in a long time. Just like the first one, I couldn't stop watching the episodes and ended staying up late to watch it all. I laughed so hard at somethings and cried at others. The kitchen (male bonding room) is so funny and Denis Leary is fantastic and funny. It made me really respect the firemen even more to see what they go through. It isn't all about fighting fires. Their home lives are excellent viewing too. I never knew who Denis Leary was or even that he was a stand up comedian. You have to watch season one, the two and season three if you haven't seen it. Definately an awsome TV show.

Rescue Me-the complete second season 2006 dvd

Created: 03/09/07
while I had forgotten some of the first season I still caught up quickly with the characters through the dialogue and action. I now want to get each of the seasons. I moved from a large city to the mountains and don't have tv..I LIVE for good dvd series from tv. and this one kept me interested until two or three o'clock in the morning. Dennis Leary, the tormented almost antiheroe protagonist makes it more than just a story about the rigorous and dangerous lives of the men and women in the profession.
