Good game. Bad Controls.

The only reason to ever buy the PC version of RE4 is if you don’t own a PS2 game system, because the PC version is a direct translation of the PS2 version of the game. That being said, if you do buy the PC version...do yourself a favor and buy an official US version. You can buy it new from Walmart now for $20 and a used one on eBay w/shipping will cost about half that. I’ve learned from experience to stay away from “import” software on eBay, because it’s really just black-market/bootleg software (usually Russian). Not only is it illegal, but it requires the installation of Daemon Tools software to run. One of the main purposes of this type of software is to get around copyright protections. It’s my understanding that some licensed software won’t even run if it detects Daemon Tools on your computer. Also, with black-market software there’s always the risk that it may contain some kind of spyware, malware, etc. Another benefit of getting the official US version of this game is that it already includes the shading patch for improved graphics.
The worst aspect of RE4 is the controls...they suck, but once you get used to this the game is quite good...lots of action and variety, good graphics (except the cut-scenes) and the game is quite long with numerous bonus features. If you enjoy horror/survival games and don’t own a PS2 system...this PC game is definitely worth checking out. Make sure you have the right graphics card first, however, as you’ll need one that supports shading and apparently this game doesn't work with Vista(?) either. A good gamepad would also help, because you can't use a mouse/touch-pad with this game. I prefer using the keyboard though and it wasn't difficult.
I've never played any of the RE games before, but this game reminded me a lot of the Silent Hill games. The main differences being that the SH games have more difficult puzzles and more adult and disturbing themes and visuals. If that's what you prefer, then definitely check out Silent Hill 2...a great game.

RE4 on PC

Ok, for those of you that are fans of the RE series, I would advise you get this title on a console if you have one. The pc version does not support the mouse as it says it does on the box. So you will be aiming with your keyboard. Also the people that re-coded it for the pc version were lazy and did not change the buttons in the action sequences. so the screen will tell you hit hit "3" which is actually enter.
5- left shift
6-right shift
1-right control
The game itself was great. Nice story line(it's actually pretty long too, so you won't be beating it in a couple hours), great graphics(allthough the cgi movie scenes didn't look as good as the game itself)horrible controls, but lots of replay value, and no horrible acting by whoever does the voiceover for "Jill Valentine". After you beat the game itself you are opened up to new challenges and weapons to unlock.
So I give this one an average score only because of the controls. When you spend a half an hour dying over and over while just trying to find out that "1" and "3" need to be pressed to dodge that boulder coming down behind you, it can make you pretty mad when you find out it's actually enter + right control.

One of the best games ever made
Created: 27/10/09
One of the best games ever made, in any genre. 50+ hours of gameplay including tons of extras. Sure, it may not be as good as the console versions, but this is still a very deep and satisfying game. Plus, you can also install trainers and experience this game on a more diverse level. A gripe about this version is that the cutscenes are pre-rendered and low in resolution, making them look crappy. Console version fans may hesitate to try this, but those who have never played any other version should definitely pick this one up. This game is also a fine introduction for those who are new to the RE universe.
This game offers huge replay value in the form of crazy fun and tons of unlockables. For fans of gruesome violence in their video games, this game has probably the biggest assortment of death animations ever for your character. There are tons of weapons that bring about different gameplay strategies, and tons of crazy bosses and situations. Plus, it features one of the sexiest playable female characters ever designed. This is the best RE game ever made, and a true classic.

PC version-Buyer Beware
Created: 06/05/09
NOTICE!
The PC version of this game DOES NOT support a mouse!
Check all over the internet and you will see that the biggest complaint against this good game is no mouse is supported. If you are comfortable using the keyboard to aim a gun/knife etc.,and quickly, then its great for you. If not do yourself a favor and DON'T buy this game. There are a couple of files floating on the net to try to mod/patch this feature, written by non-Capcom programmers.
Be weary of downloading executable files that you dont know the contents or where they are coming from.Your best bet is to buy a hand controller for the PC similar to the console type, and use it.Otherwise this game is great fun and well done. Hope this helps, since the box states its mouse supported....ITS NOT!

RE4 needs a control overhaul to be enjoyable
Created: 05/09/07
This game should never have been ported to the PC. The inability to step left or right, and only turn left or right just killed it. No Mouse Support! I set up a bunch of macros on my keyboard, and still found the game almost impossible to control.
I then bought a PS2/360 controller to see if that helped. Same thing, only now I'm out another $15 on the silly controller. Your guy will zig zag when you are trying to walk straight. You can't even walk and aim at the same time much less jump.
This would have been a great game if they were to address the control issue. Judging by the rather effeminate lead character, the game was aimed at kids. Leave this game for them to play on their consoles, and look elsewhere.
I DO NOT recommend for anyone who plays PC shooters.
