Resident Evil 4 -- A must have

Created: 15/07/07
This re-released game (originally from the Nintendo Gamecube) has just grown better with time. Still zesty, this shooter game is not only a must have for R.E. fans, but for any Wii owner. The controls are masterful and using the Wiimote as a gun comes naturally. I would categorize this game into the "horror adventure" genre. You fend yourself from crowds zombies in spooky scenes, and often frantic situations. Even if you've never played a game this dark, you will love it, and perhaps gain a whole new respect for these types of games.

The Resident Evil series was my first Survival Horror. I had played it on my friends console, and immediately I was sucked into the engaging (and somewhat difficult) fight scenes. About 10 years later, with Resident Evil 4, this passion was reignited in me. The time is now, on the Wii, to experience a timeless game that will deliver fantastic gameplay every single second. Also, the game lasts a good while too... It took me about 30 accumulative hours to complete this game on the NORMAL difficulty. And even though I'm an experienced gamer, a lot of this time was spent exploring the map, searching for items, and enhancing my character.

Graphics -- On a Nintendo scale I would give it a 9/10. Definitely ranked amongst the best graphics for the Wii.

Controls -- Basically flawless. Its a little annoying reaching your thumb up to the control pad to change your view, but thats not the games fault. 10/10. The flow of the game is a giant step up from the original Resi 4. Just point the remote and shoot! Using 'B' to aim, and 'A' as a trigger is quite simple. And shaking the remote to use your knife (trust me, you will want to save your bullets) adds to the immersive experience.

Gameplay -- 10/10. You will want to keep playing until you finish, but then your remember that you need to sleep (unfortunately).

Story -- 9/10 The story is what motivates you to survive! And the story is not just there for the sake of being there. Everything in this series is tied together and you get to make the story yourself by playing along. Semi-frequently there are cinematic cut scenes which advance you and hint whats coming up. Of course, there are some weird twists and silly objectives once in a while (very rarely), but what game doesn't. This is just me being picky, most people would be too distracted by the mind-blowing headshots (bad pun) to even notice.

Value -- the best of the best of the best value. 10/10. Its so much fun, and its cheaper than regular retail price.

Sound -- 10/10. Hearing the sudden shouts of zombie-villagers will make you jump! You can hear echoed footsteps in a cave, dull thuds in a courtyard, the clapping of shoes when your in a palace. Also, whenever you hear the floorboards creek in a house, look behind you!!

A highly recommended game! My review may sound exaggerated but its not. Thats seriously just how good this game is. A must-buy!

This game get nothing short of 5/5 from me!

If you have not played the older releases of this game (and why not?) the you are in for a treat! You play as Leon Kennedy who was the star of Resident Evil 2, who is now working for the US government and has been sent to a mysterious Spanish village to locate and rescue the presidents daughter, Ashley Graham.

I played the original gamecube version when it was released quite a while ago, I never played the PS2 version so I never had a chance to play the special 5 chapters as Ada Wong, but I can now! You also get a chance to play the special mini game 'Mercenaries', where you must kill as many enemies you can in a certain amount of time in order to achieve the highest score, performing killing combo's also increases your final score. The graphics in this version also seem slightly improved.... My finish time was 18 hours (but dont forget ive already played it through before), for someone new to RE4 id say it could take around 25 hours or more.

Obviously the main feature of the Wii version (and what everyone wants to know about) is use of the Wii's remote and nunchuk controllers, in my eyes the control system is flawless and handles extremely well. But the thing I just cant help but say 'awesooooome' to, is the use of the speaker on the wii remote, the remote will play reloading sounds and shotgun cocking sounds :D Let me guide you through which buttons do what:

REMOTE:
You use the remote to aim your current weapon. It can also be used to reload, you do this by shaking the remote whilst aiming. Shake the remote (when not aiming) to slash with your knife.
B = This aims your weapon
A = Fire (B must also be pressed)
+ = Command Ashley to follow or wait, skip cinematic.
- = Inventory
D-PAD = Shift camera
1 = Map
2 = Pause menu

NUNCHUK:
You use the nunchuk to move Leon and snipe using rifles.
C = Brings out your knife.
Z = Run (hold back then press run to do a 180 degree turn)

I find these controls work very well and don't think anyone will have a problem controlling this game. I guarantee you will enjoy this one and with a retail price of just £29.99 its a bloomin' bargain and should be in everyones collection.

Hope this helped some people make a decision!

Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition is great!

Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition Review by CrimsonTears

First off lets start with the Graphics. There are pretty good for being a ported game, and its in true 16:9 format not in the faked ratio as in the previous versions, and so I’m not going to go into further details on this section

As for the story goes for anyone who isn’t that familiar with this game or any of the previous game(s). The story of the game starts off with Leon S. Kennedy. A survivor from the tragic zombie outbreak that had accrued in Raccoon City in 1998. Now he is on a mission to find, and rescue the President’s daughter from a kidnapping that has taken place, and as he struggles along the way to find her leads in a European village of crazed Spanish peasants. Now Osmund Saddler, a leader of the village's religious cult, Los Illuminades. He has brought an infection to all of his followers with the Las Plagas. It is a parasite that will control anyone who is too weak to control it him or herself.

The control layout for the Wii version is rather nice, you use the B to aim and the A button to fire. You use the Z down on the nunchuck to do a turnaround, and C & Z to zoom in and out with the rifle or rocket scopes, and you can either swing the Wii remote to slash with the knife, and to automatically open crates, or you can either hold down C & press the A buttons to open crates, or you can hold down C and move the knife around on what you want to slash, and to move the camera angles you just use the d-pad on the remote.

The only thing that kind of bugged me at first is the Wii remote cross hair when it’s not in use. I would have like it if the cross hair is off the screen at all times, and the only time it will show up is when you hold down the B button to fire. Its not that bad you’ll get use to it, I just distracted myself at times wiggling it around the screen.

This is the best version out of all the previously released ones. If you haven’t played Resident Evil 4, or your just looking into picking up the Wii version for the extra content and Wii functionality. Then defiantly its a must buy, and at a budget price of 30$ is a pretty good deal for such a great game!

If you've played the gamecube. . .

Created: 11/02/10
This review is specifically for those who have played the gamecube version of the game and are wondering if the wii version is worth their time. To preface, I LOVED the gamecube original Resident Evil 4 and have probably played that game more than any other single player game.

Pros:
The wii version includes everything from the gamecube version, but has a few bonuses that make it worth your time. The controls, for one, are a definite improvement. At first it was a little clumsy adjusting after being used to the gamecube controller, but by the first big village fight (you know what i mean) you'll be back in gear and shooting faster than ever before. If you still can't stand the wii pointer, just plug in a gamecube controller and you're good to go.

This version includes the mini-games The Mercenaries and Operation: Ada as well as the sidequest Seperate Ways, where you play through the game as Ada. Seperate Ways was included in the PS2 version but not the gamecube and answers a lot of questions fans might have, as well as being something new. It was nice to play a little again not knowing what would happen next! Another welcome addition is a movie player that lets you watch all the movies and cutscenes from the game. I just can't get enough of Salazar getting knifed in the hand! Speaking of knifes, there is an option to quick-slash by simply shaking the wii remote, which I found to be faster and easier than holding a button and slashing that way. And lastly, there is actually a 3rd costume set and bonus weapon not found in the gamecube edition, both being well worth the game.

Cons:
There are times in the main game where you'll be required to "waggle" the wii remote to escape certain situations. Button pressing was far less stressful and my arm would get tired occasionally swinging madly. However, I found that it was easier to "waggle fast" than press button combos fast and I could do more damage slashing at El Gigante or whomever with the knife this way than the controller allowed. For instance, I could easily kill the first El Gigante with only two "knife sessions" whereas previously I remember it taking three. Nevertheless, my arm would get tired, and its hard to quickly press A and B while "waggling". A minor gripe that by no means ruins the game.

So there you have it. Seeing as how the game can be found pretty easily in the $20 range online, and might not be as easy to find in the years to come, I'd say pick this one up. If you're as much of a fan of the original as I am, go for it. If you've never played the game before, DO NOT HESITATE. If you only mildly enjoyed the original (is that possible?) nothing here is drastically different enough to change your mind. Hope this helps!

Great Game

Created: 03/09/07
RE4 on the Wii is an updated version of the gamecube. The graphics are better, the story line is the same, but it has additional bonus levels. All in all the gameplay is great, the controls are easy to use and get used to. It also makes playing this game much more fun because of the interactions between the controllers and player. I would totally recommend this game for anyone looking for a thriller, this game is action packed and has a twist of mystery and suspense.
