A Remake Delivers New Surprises - A Must Have
Created: 21/09/06
This is actually nothing more than a remake of the original game, but don't let that fool you. This game is really something new and fierce, completely different from the first release. I never played Resident Evil until I purchased a GameCube and found out that this title was just a remake. I purchased it, thinking that it might not be uodated with new graphics are anything different from the original. When I played it, I instantly realized that these graphics were toyed with...they were superb. The graphics in this game really shows the power the GameCube has, the power which many people seem to think is non-existant. The graphics were great, the movie scenes were smooth and the lighting involved was so well done that it almost seemed real. As for the game, I really can't compare it to the original Resident Evil release, because I've never played it (as I said). The story was great and something quite new to me. The entire time I thought I was in a haunted house and as you progress and explore, you're finding new locations and documents which reveal that actually this is a hidden lab where an expiremental virus went totally awry. So the story is well developed and really takes you on one heck of a ride. I enjoy the Resident Evil game because it's a mix of adventure and puzzle solving. You'll get your fair share of zombie killing and monster battles...there's some great monsters, by the way...but there's also tons of puzzles. It can be annoying, at times, to pick up an item and have to walk around with it forever until you find the particular place where it can be used. There's a variety of different puzzles that will challenge your skills. The combat is a bit tricky, mainly because you cannot directly aim your gun. You can just sort of shoot straight up, up or down...so sometimes your character misses and you're wondering why your ammo is so low. Also, you have your choice of characters to be; depending on which of the two you choose, the story will be slightly altered in some ways. Also, one great thing about this and Resident Evil Zero are it's scare tactics. In many instances, in a quiet room, something will just pop through the window or through the door and just scary you half to death. It's great how the game tries to mess with your nerves. It's a well rounded game - lengthy, too (it's two discs). The only other thing that some people might have a problem with is the save feature. The save feature here is limited because you can only save where you locate a typewriter and you can only save at the typewriter if you have an ink ribbon with you. At times, you might not have your ink ribbon with you (or have any at all) and you just want to save before you die and lose a lot of covered ground. The save feature is annoying, but makes the game more challenging. Not to mention, if you save less and complete the game in a fairly quick time, you can earn yourself some bonuses. The replay value of this game is pretty good - there's only the one story mode and nothing else, but if you hold on to this game, you'll be playing it in a month or two, trust me. It's a great title that really shows off why having a GameCube is a good investment.

Best remake I've seen in a long time!

I just received this game in the mail yesterday. Being a survival horror, I waited until dark to play it (what fun is it in the middle of the day? :p). Anyway, I only played for about two hours. That's about all I could play it for. This game, even though I played the version for the playstation also, shook me up enough that I had to quit, feeling mentally drained.
A lot of games that are remade, you simply expect an extra mini-game or two and that's the end of it. This is not the case, by any means! This one, compared to the original, is almost an entirely new game! The graphics have been redone (and VERY well, if I may say so), the voice acting has been improved severely, the controls are nicer, the AI is harder, there are completely different areas, it just goes on and on.
If you're a fan of the Resident Evil series and haven't played this, I STRONGLY suggest you look it up somewhere. I got it on here for a crazy-nice price and it was TOTALLY worth the price, hands down!

Resident Evil - Re-Imagined for Gamecube
Created: 07/05/08
This game is a remake of an original Playstation classic. Though the location and basic story are the same, this really is a new game-no more cheesy live action cut scenes, though still not stellar, the voice acting is much improved, and there are a few nods to the original thrown in to satisfy the die-hard fans. Everything was redone in this game from the ground up, not simply making the same game with better graphics. New puzzles and areas have been added as well as an expanded plot to make the story more emmersive, more like later games in the franchise. Though this is a good game it is not without it's faults. On thing that was great about the original was that the two main characters (Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine) had different gameplay, not vastly different, but different enough to make it worth playing as both, in this version however the gameplay is nearly identical for both characters, lessening replay-ability. But the pros definitely outweigh the cons, the story is good, the puzzles are decent (in that uniquely Resident Evil way) it flows well, and isn't too short or too long. This game is a good retelling of a great classic, and should be in any Resident Evil fan's collection.

Just like the original, only scarier!

Like my title suggests, this title is a remake of the original Resident Evil for the Playstation. The new version is much inproved. The voice acting is a little better, I mean it can only be so good as it's a Resident Evil game. The graphics are much inproved and loading times are drastically reduced. In game controls are tough to get the hang of if your used to playing on a playstation but after a while, it's second nature. Gameplay is still awesome and the music, hand in hand with the atmosphere, will still scare the Hell out of you.
The BEST thing about this game is that it follows the same basic story of the original, but there are so many new things. The cutscenes are beautifully rendered and do a good job of either scaring you or explaining something. There are tons of new area's to explore and everything is moved around. Enemies are also moved around so that if you've played the original, you won't know what to expect here. Zombies will jump out of places that used to be safe. It makes the game even scarier, thinking you know what's coming and realizing you don't know all over again. This really is suvival horror. The ultimate. Where it all started. You need to play this game. 'Nuff said.

More than just updated graphics

This remake of RE has lots of new stuff and scares!
It really is different than the original.
NEW stories, NEW enemies, NEW areas to explore, NEW gameplay enhancements!
Definitely the scariest and BEST RE game ever made, and the graphics are amazing.
The gameplay is much better than the original also because it has quick-turn, sub weapons, and zombies can open some doors.
