Album Notes
Personnel: Matthew Bellamy (vocals, guitar, keyboards, synthesizer, programming); Chris Wolstenholme (vocals); Edoardo de Angelis (violin); Enrico Gabrielli (bass clarinet); Dominic Howard (synthesizer, drums, percussion, programming); Paul Reeve (sound effects).Audio Mixer: Mark "Spike" Stent.Photographer: Danny Clinch. With its titanic guitar solos, symphonic suites, and multi-layered melodies, Muse's fifth album operates under the assumption that bigger is better. This is the very definition of a super-sized album, an album that takes its cues from Queen, its lyrics from science fiction novels, and its delivery from rock opera. It's also the first time that Muse has truly sounded like Muse, as few bands since Queen have so readily explored the intersection of bombast and extravagance. THE RESISTANCE is most certainly extravagant -- there are snatches of classical piano entwined throughout, not to mention bilingual lyrics, concert hall percussion, coronet solos, and song titles like "Exogenesis: Symphony, Pt. 2 (Cross-Pollination)" -- but it's also quite beautiful, capable of moving between prog rock choruses and excerpts from Chopin's "Nocturne in E Flat Major" within the same song. Presiding over the mix is frontman Matthew Bellamy, a man who seemingly aspires to be both Brian May and Freddie Mercury. He plays guitar, pounds the piano, and composes the album's orchestral parts, but his strongest asset is his voice, a sky-scraping tenor dripping with so much emotion that it's almost lewd. He croons, whispers, annunciates, and belts with confidence, a combination that makes him one of England's most dazzling singers in recent memory. And since a virtual mountain of voices is better than a single voice (remember: bigger is better), Bellamy also multi-tracks himself, creating towering stacks of harmonies during songs like "Resistance," "Undisclosed Desires," and the colossal "United States of Eurasia (+Collateral Damage)."

Editorial Reviews
4 stars out of 5 -- [O]n RESISTANCE, Muse prove that they could be the last in a line of great British rock eccentrics, a trio of mad professors who should be cherished.
Uncut

From album opener 'Uprising,' a glitter band stomp spliced with the Dr. Who theme, it's classic Muse, Bellamy's voice a thing of wonder as always.
Clash

4 stars out of 5 -- [T]heir new adventures in sci-fi hi-fi are, for the most part, hugely impressive. 'Uprising' is a brilliantly addictive opener...
Q

The three-part rock symphony 'Exogenesis' closes the album, combining elements of piano and the band's dramatic flair.
Billboard

The album's best track, 'Uprising,' is a simple slice of glam rock... -- Grade: B
Entertainment Weekly

3 stars out of 5 -- Songs like the industrial-flavored 'Uprising' prove again that Muse know how to whip up an almighty roar.
Rolling Stone

Very new original '10 music

Muse always surprise in every their album. We can feel something new together with classic muse-sound. Apart from the n.1-chart well known songs all the album is well made. A sort of "Queen" sound can be felt listening to The Resistance. Track 4 is also a good example of how easy is for the band from Denmark to take ideas from other countries' music to offer us new experiences.
I like very much the resistance, one of the best Muse album.
Great choice!!!

Resistance

I first heard the song Uprising in a video promoting Ron Paul's new book End The Fed and had to pick up the CD to see if the whole thing was that good. It is! So much variety that it sometimes comes across as schizophrenic. One moment I hear Kenna, the next Radiohead, the next Queen and then Pink Floyd. But even better than the music is the excellent lyrics. I won't try to connect dots and interpret their art. I'll let you listen closely and come to your own conclusion about what the message is. 5 stars.

bought cd for that one song, others are just ok

first released track is very different than all other tracks. I'm liking the rest of the cd more as I listen to it more. I wasn't a muse fan and like others bought the cd for that "one" song. It's very different for me but I like it. I'm not usually very happy with cds that have a first release that is very different than all the other songs like this one. But it's not bad.

Another excellent albumn by Muse. If you like their earlier work you'll like this one as well. They have a uncanny original sound in just about every thing they do.
Bottom line: A must to take with you on the road.
Good luck,

WOW, where have I been? This is great music! Muse's style sort of reminds me of Queen and yet their sound is truly all their own. I highly recommend this CD.
