Riddick Trilogy (DVD, 2006)

David Twohy, Vin Diesel, Judi Dench|Theatrical release: 2000 | Rating: R (MPAA)

Movie synopsis

PITCH BLACK: A spacecraft carrying an assortment of passengers including Riddick (Vin Diesel), a dangerous, shackled murderer between prisons, is forced to make a crash landing on a barren, triple-sunned planet after the craft suffers severe damage during a meteor shower. The ship is ripped into pieces, killing several crew members and leaving meek officer Fry (Radha Mitchell) in charge of the survivors. After two unfortunate deaths, the survivors discover that the only visible life form on the planet is a species of light-fearing, carnivorous, occasionally cannibalistic aliens dwelling in caverns beneath the desert surface. Using a model of the planet and its suns in an abandoned research station, Fry deduces that she and her fellow travelers have unfortunately descended on the planet on the day of its first total eclipse in 22 years, giving them mere hours before they are bathed in total darkness. Only then is it safe for the hungry subterranean creatures to emerge, seeking to feed on the remaining survivors. However, the dangerous Riddick, through black market injections received in lock-up, is able to see in darkness- causing the surviving crew members to reluctantly remain dependent on the potentially harmful criminal. As the survivors are killed one by one by the hungry creatures, they realize that Riddick may be their only hope.THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK: DARK FURY: In this animated sequel to the hit sci-fi action thriller PITCH BLACK that serves as a story bridge between PITCH BLACK and its sequel feature film CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK - PITCH BLACK, Vin Diesel again stars as Riddick, an escaped convict with special abilities. Here, Riddick, Jack, and Imam face off with a formidable bounty hunter!THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK: The sequel to cult sci-fi hit PITCH BLACK sees Vin Diesel enthusiastically returning to his role as Richard B. Riddick. Director-writer David Twohy is on board again, building on themes established in the first movie, and expanding his vision with some incredible special effects work. Twohy opens the movie with Riddick on the run from a group of bounty hunters. He escapes them with ease, and then seeks information from an old friend named Inam (Keith David). Inam informs Riddick that he has been singled out by an Air Elemental, Aereon (Judi Dench), as the one man who can stop the evil Necromongers from taking over the Universe. Suddenly, the Necromongers arrive on the planet, causing mayhem and destruction. They capture Riddick. He soon escapes, only to fall into the hands of the bounty hunters he so deftly eluded at the start of the movie. They take Riddick to a rogue prison planet where he is met by scorching heat, an underground penitentiary, and his female companion from PITCH BLACK, Jack (who is now called Kyra, and played by a different actress, Alexa Davalos). They plan their escape from the planet, and vow to bring down the Necromongers. Things don't go according to plan however, leading to a suspense-filled climax to the film, and an eyebrow-raising ending that suggests Twohy may have plans for further installments in the story.

Vin Diesel + Sci Fi = Great Movie

Created: 22/07/09
The Chronicles of Riddick Triology is easily one of my favorite trilogies, and the first of the series, The Chronicles of Riddick: Pitch Black, has been my favorite movie for many years. This movie is what introduced me to Vin Diesel and his many great movies. The only movie of the trilogy I did not like is The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury because it is just a short animation. Even though it is a necessary movie to fully understand what happened between the first (Pitch Black) and the third (Riddick) movies, I just did not like seeing the characters animated.

Other than that short 30min movie, if you are a big Vin Diesel fan like I am, I definitely recommend watching this trilogy.

Chronicles of Riddick - Triple Feature!

Created: 08/01/09
Right off the bat, I love sci-fi. But the character of Riddick stood out the first time I watched Pitch Black, first in the triple feature. But when I got to see Chronicles of Riddick, third in the series, the impact it had on me was cemented. They were now two of my favorite movies. Now, I'm generally leery of animated movies(not my favs). But again, when it came to the "Riddick mystique", I was definitely pleasantly surprised. I was greatly impressed with the quality of the animation, and the movie held my attention from beginning to end - not the easiest thing to do with most movies! When I saw that the trilogy was for sale and at such a bargain price, I jumped on it, and I'm not at all sorry I did. I definitely recommend that anyone watch all three.

This is the right set for you action movie people

Created: 17/10/10
If your looking for some good action movies, this is the box set you should get, Pitch Black and Riddick are awesome sci-fi action movies, I can't really say I cared for the animated movie in this set, but it connects the other two quite nicely by filling the timeline gap. If you're a Vin Diesel fan, this is a great addition to your collection.

Riddick Trilogy (2006, DVD) Review

Created: 09/05/08
The is a great movie for anything who is into sci-fi. This is a sci-fi adventure with a wonderful storyline of a criminal who uses his abilities to save himself and others around him. The trilogy itself is a three-part story all surrounding the same situations, just within different time periods.
This, in my opinion, is one of my favorites movies during the early stages of Vin Diesel's career. This is the trilogy that set the standard for his career, and the starting point of hopefully a long line of movies in the future.

Riddick Thrillogy

Created: 01/05/10
I like all the movies in the Riddick Trilogy even the animated 2nd part Dark Fury.
The one thing I didn't like and this can be said of all movies from books, is the movies to not give you the full time line of Riddick's story. In the first movie Pitch Black, there could have been a little more background to Riddicks origins.
Overall a good story!!!!
