What a disappointment...

I was disappointed when I discovered that At Risk by Patricia Cornwell was only 4 CD's in length...unabridged. I have read/listened to every one of her works (usually 8 to 12 discs, unabridged) and longed for the next one. She has a remarkable writing style and so many strong characters that you have a hard time letting them go, be it Scarpetta or Marino or Andy Brazil! This was not the case in At Risk...oh the wonderful style is there but that's about it. The story was flat and none of the characters were memorable. I felt that it was in no way up to the standard that she has gotten us used to experiencing. Maybe it was a blessing that it WAS only 4 CD's.

This is one in a series of 14 audiobooks about Kay Scarpetta, Medical Examiner in Virginia. The author, Patricia Cornwell, is a master at murder mysteries that are technically accurate, believable and suspenseful to the end. I am a recently retired Police Lt. myself, and am picky about the believability of many of the murder mysteries out there. You will love this series!!!

Different but entertaining.

It's something new from Patricia Cornwell other than her great but were getting very old Dr. Scarpetta series. It laid a good foundation of a new character that I would like to read more about. So many ways that she can go and it's all new and exciting.

I enjoyed the plot and the new characters, however, I miss Kay Scarpetta. Not as gripping as the Scarpetta series but 100 times better then "Isle of Dogs".

Where, Oh Where has the old Patricia Cornwell gone?
Created: 23/07/06
Where did the old Patricia Cornwell go? I have read everything she's written, her 1st 4 novels are classics, but her last 3 have really been on the poorly written side. I couldn't even finish Predator and this one couldn't even keep my attention while I was a passenger on a flight from Georgia to California, I wanted to get off the plane and get a different book. I felt like I was stuck with these characters for five hours of boring drivel. Please write like the earlier novels. I am going to start checking her books out in the library first before commiting to buy them.
