Movie synopsis
Fly-fishing figures prominently in this poignant tale of two brothers growing up in Montana in the early 20th century under the stern rule of their minister father. While both boys rebel, Norman (Craig Sheffer) channels his rebellion into writing, but Paul (Brad Pitt) descends onto a slippery path of self-destruction. The beautiful scenery of Montana is used to full effect with the awesome cinematography of Philippe Rousselot. Directed by Robert Redford, this adaptation of Norman Maclean's classic autobiography also features Tom Skerritt and Brenda Blethyn as the Reverend and Mrs. Maclean.

) An amazingly simple but beautiful story of life in Montana 75 years ago. Superbly acted, directed and filmed. It brings tears to this old fisherman's eyes every time. It could have been a story of my father who taught me how to fly fish. Partly filmed in Livingston, MT, my home town, about a place I now live, Missoula, MT. I bought this DVD to have at our summer home along the Yellowstone River. My favorite movie of all time.

I love this movie, may just be the Missoulian in me, but nonetheless it has captured my heart (and movie collection) as a classic. A great tale of growing up in early 1900s in Montana and taking the sport of flyfishing to its mastery. Don't be put off this is a movie about fishing, it is much more than that. To those who see this movie as rather dull, try fly fishing yourself (not so easy) Brad Pitt is an amazing actor and not only looks good but also earns his paycheck. Highly recommended. If you like this movie try one of my all time favorites, Legends of the Fall. :)

I like a lot of people have loved this movie since it came out. The cinematography and Robert Redford's direction are incredible. I also think it's one of Brad Pitt's best roles. I was interested in this edition because of the crispness of the video and extras. I also got it for a great price and it had never been opened. One of the best buys I have made on Ebay. Definitely rank the movie and the purchase as excellent!

Gorgeous poetic film

I really enjoyed this movie. The cinematography alone makes it outstanding, but the story itself is powerful. Redford nails the tone as the narrator and the acting, especially the relationship between the two brothers is strong and believable. It's a slow "relationship" film, but it has moments of humor and drama as well that round it out nicely. I'll watch it again and am glad to have it in my DVD collection.
